Addiction side-effects
I jus read the mondoid and seen the part about addiction needing ideas for possible future implementation into the game. Here are a few ideas I thought would be interesting in the fallout universe, and with the mondoid mentioning it I thought they'd work great in the game.
1)Simple visual and auditorial hallucinations. Strange bangings, maybe you see a survivor or a zombie inside your fortress as you open a door, only for it to vanish as it was an illusion. Or the sounds of zombies clawing at your barricades temporarily.
2)Depending on what it is your addicted too, (game wise, alchohol or cigarettes so far) You'll see the item frequently on your looting adventures, only to realize once you've stuffed it into your pockets, that whiskey was just vinegar, or some other bottled substance.. In a desparate grab for some smokes, you merely pocketed a useless deck of cards.
3)Negative moodlet penalties. You grow depressed, your senses dull, more further than a usual non user.
4)Scientific evidence suggests smokers circulatory system causes them to "warm up slower"
5)Alchoholics tend to "shake" when deprived. Crafted weapons are made with decreased durability, structures appear like they were made by a lower leveled craftsman. On a plus side once addicted they could not suffer from the negative control effects from consumption, maybe have it "normal" them out, or a little more than "normal" since they are likely to feel less physical and emotional pain. Of course, with alchohol being a blood thinner, scratches and wounds would bleed at an increased rate, like one of those old japanese samurai movies.

Again merely suggestions, i love the game as it is, as it was, and surely, as it is to become.
