I usually play with a day length of 2 hours and I usually end the day with a 1000+ Calorie Deficit after a light loot run meaning I have to slam my face with like 2 Ice Cream cartons to keep a healthy weight
It's a bit of a pain to deal with
I wish I could do the same, but my server is literally putting food to insanely rare and it's 1 year after the event so no ice cream spawned so far... that's why I'm chugging in 20 canned food in a day
I took obese once, i think i lasted couple of days before being run down by zeds.
Nutrition in general needs major rework. Proper calorie values for veggies, adding vitamins.
And they also need to fix fish.
Canned one is fine, high hunger value, not much empty calories. But the ones you catch from the river for some reason have very high calories values. Makes you gain weight.
Fruit cocktail has fat and proteins in it for some reason. Not like I am complaining, my favoured food to lose weight.
notice how I chose my word very carefully that I didn't say it was easier, I just said it's much more fun than trying to gain weight with the current calorie burn rate, doing nothing and walking as few as possible at the base
Skill issue, You only need to hold shift for 2-3 in game days while moving around safe area or even inside your base. The last update only makes it so you don't need to hold shift to do that. When you are in the right shape, it's only a matter of watching that up down arrow indicator next to your weight. If it's going down, eat more calories. If it's going up, stick with 100ish canned food or food that are filling but don't contain much calories.
Agree, this is stupid. Most of the time even short loot run would cost you more calories than the one you get from that whole looting trip combined. Sure it's bearable in the few first week when meat, chips and all of those junk foods are still available. But later in the game or like OP situation with the server settings, you can really do nothing and just starve to death. Planted crops can't even cover it up due to how small calories they have, your only choice is to get lucky in trapping or stocking up on a lot of fishing supplies. And even both of those require you to...drumroll..... more walking!
As for right now, the whole game calorie system is very unbalanced and almost unplayable if you are not playing with high food spawn rate. It means no more 10 years later scenario, no more low loot rate settings, no outdoor survival stuff etc. It killed the survival aspect of the game.
The devs really need to slow down on making new content for a bit, and instead focus on cleaning their code from bugs and spaghetti code, balance the item stats and this calorie problem, overall polishing the current game experience.
I've started to take it in MP games so I can eat more food to help with Calorie Management
Or alternatively be chowing down on fish. one good fish and bam, instant weight gain.
i pity you if you're stuck trying to gain weight from cabbages/potatoes for some reason.
I've found it to be far less aggravating than you might expect UNLESS you start in winter/with reduced natures abundance, in which case you could just take overweight or obese anyways until you feel comfortable trying to grind fishing up. Basically go on loot runs, drop stuff on the floor, eat fish while running around sorting your base out.
And no, I do not need your pity or expect any from you... my point is that the new calorie burn rate is neither realistic nor balanced, so I just want a Sandbox Setting for calorie burn rate so as to use the rather more balanced calorie burn rate than the rate we used in the current build
for christ's sake.... I never said it's about "easier" or "harder" I said it's even much more fun trying to lose weight in the earlier builds than trying to gain weight in this build because now gaining weight is just you doing nothing and eat like a bear about to hibernate
I agree fully with this, recently i played hardcore 10 years later with additionaly moded rare loot, only to find out it's impossible to keep normal weight even for a few days with new calories update. But no worries, there is recently updated mod i found out that add calories burn rate to sandbox options, which should have been in base game. Can't recall name but if your interested i will look for it in my mod list. It work like a charm, i tested it.
