Household well pumps.
In the real world they are common in houses some distance away from urban areas. My house has one in fact. Its connected to my home's power and can supply water a short time beyond the loss of power thanks to a pressure tank.

In game, this could make some interior map locations more viable, even desirable. Like real world pumps, they would need power and occasional maintenance.

Boring new wells might be too much complexity but, with the right equipment and knowledge a solo operator could get it done.

When I was growing up, the house across the street from mine was built in 1796.
It did have a water pump located outside the main building. We used to sneak over there with our banana seat bicycles and fill our bellies with the cool water during the hot summers. Steal fruit off of the nearby pear tree.

It was just a pipe coming up out of the ground with a spigot handle to open and shut the valve. I don't think it had power, as it was powered by hand pump spigot. Very old school.

There was also a natural spring just up the hill that had a constant flow of water into a ditch.
We drank from that too, but probably shouldn't have as there were big farms at the top of the hill... likely using pesticides and fertilizers.

Those were the days when the outside world was our entertainment and our sandbox was infinite.

Springs and old hand pumps would be fun to come across - in game and RL.

I have a seeping spring on a hill below my house but nothing I could drink from.
