Slingshots

I have rubber band, tree branches and several stones from foraging, let me craft a slingshot and use stones as ammo.

Maybe not good damage, but a wait to attract single zombies from a distance? I don't know, maybe I just want more uses for those stones.

well if you make one big enough, you could use it to launch grenades further then throwing them...

and there is of course the utility of distracting zeds by breaking a window, or hitting one to draw it away from its group.

also ways to mess with people online in harmless ways, i want to be able to have snowball fights dangit!

Not if you use office rubber bands. Hand grenades weigh around half a kilo.

And even if it would be possible, we have on more problem: no hand grenades in Project Zomboid.

well yeah, using titchy bands wont work, but perhaps if you braid them into a big sling thing? or perhaps with smelting, you could melt the rubber down and make a giant band?

and by grenades, i was using it as a catch-all term for thrown explosives, pipe bombs, molotovs, and the like. sorry if i confused anyone on that.

I doubt it would be possible, even when using a handful of rubber bands. This is definitely something worth experimenting tho. :)

And yes, I completely forgot that the game indeed has explosives now. My bad.

Okay, I made a crude experiment (for science!!). I twined 10 rubber bands together so that I can make it more durable and less terrible. I was able to shoot a full beer can (weighs a little less than 400 grams) approximately 3 meters. It would most likely be a lot better if I would use shoe laces and more elastic material for the hook rather than the other way around, because rubber bands are way too elastic (plus then there's the whole new problem with plasticity...). It would require more strength to use because it would work more like an actual bow.

Not going to do more in-depth experiments because I still plan to drink something in sauna. ;)

hey, its fertile ground for further experementation, thats worth knowing.

perhaps several boxes worth of bands... there are also other possible sutable materials, shock cord, hair bands, also elastic bands from underwear.

hmm, now im thinking to being able to build seige engines to fight zeds, i like the idea of spearing an unlucky line of zeds to a wall, also using a noose to fling a live zed into a base you are assualting.

Nice to see it got a discussion going. Another suggestion for launching items: pressurized air "guns" using pipes. Just watch a few youtube videos for some nice ideas.

a potato cannon rather, make it the right size, it could lob explosives as well, perhaps even be "man-portable."

a friend of mine made a cannon out of scrap pipe that can fire a metal cannonball the size of a fist, and could lob a potato i THINK at least a quarter of a mile? it was made of metal (he works as a welder,) and it did use gunpowder, so it probably could be used as a lethal seige weapon.

Slingshots are powerful enough to go through zombie skull. Plus you can find rocks in decoration and ground. There are many ppl that can hit cans with them so hitting a zombie in skull should be easy enough.
