That would draw them out into the country and the highways ,attracting other nearby zeds with their moans as they go so they chain react into a large horde and start walking forever in the general direction of the last stimuli it experienced.
I think it would be great cause if the entire maps zed population did that and followed things forever in the direction of the most recent sound or sight it saw, we would get large hordes eventually spreading out in-between and through the towns and forest, making every base location potentially dangerous if you wait long enough.
I believe that if they were wandering dynamically through and in-between the towns, that then even if we kill everything in a cell in the middle of the forest, or clear a whole town ,eventually, if you wait long enough(probably weeks months or maybe over a year if you're lucky or use horde herding tactics to keep them away, a horde will happen through your area, especially if you're loud, even in the forest.
Though if you were quiet and stealthy they would just wander though or around your base casually ,not realizing that they are walking past what may or may not be what attracted them in the first place...if you're lucky or skilled enough.
