[42.16.0] Cannot become admin / get admin rights.
I am trying to host a new server, using the "Host" button and a fresh set of "Create new settings". In older versions of B42 (up to 42.15.0) I would grant myself Admin rights so that I could address bugs (such as a player getting voided with the sinking cars during 42.15.0). I would do this by typing /setaccesslevel [steam name] admin or /grantadmin [steam name].

In the recent B42.16 when I do this, I get the error "Invalid username". It will now only work when I use the character name (ie. the name from the character selection). The problem is that I do not get admin rights. If I enable debug I might only be able to have the option to teleport by opening the map and right clicking but then I will get the error "An observer can only teleport himself".

Integrity of files has already been verified. I have not used any mods since B42 Multiplayer.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Go to “%UserProfile%\Zomboid” and delete the "db" folder. Then try assigning admin to yourself again.

I suspect a character limit, the only workaround is shorting your name before you launch the server and rename yourself afterwards.
I tried multiple different things including downloading the sqlite3 console app and using it to insert my name directly into the \db\serverconfigname.db database to skip the console command middleman and the "Invalid username" error it gives. Even when the database has my name exactly as it should be, the hosted server does not immediately recognize me as admin when it starts.

It turned out that there were two problems that led to confusion here.

First, I was launching the game with the -debug launch option and it seems that it completely BLOCKS the usage of the `/grantadmin "Dr. Diesel Submarine"` command - it always gives "Invalid username" error when the username is correct. So I had to remove the -debug option.

Second, even if a B42 server has your name added to the database as an admin, it will not immediately give you the powers upon start. You MUST type `/grantadmin "Dr. Diesel Submarine"` EVERY time when you host the server. As long as you launched the game without the -debug option, this command WILL work as expected and produce no "Invalid username" error.

So in the end I had to insert my name how it is spelled directly into the database with the sqlite3 console app, disable -debug and then also type `/grantadmin "Dr. Diesel Submarine"` in chat every time the server starts.

When the command is run successfully, the (Client) bubble on the left is replaced with (Admin) and you can then right click on it to open the available admin powers.
