I have no menu

If I start the game, there is a cursor, yet no menu pops up. Even without any mods enabled, the game does not show anything. I already let the game files check through steam.

Any recommendations what to do?

UI mods from b41 are the culprit when updating to b42.

Either deleted your mods folder, which will deactivate all mods, and let the game launch normally.

Or

Downgrade to b41, disable all mods, relaunch b42.

Or

Unsubscribe from all mods, let pz do it's thing, relaunch b42.

One of those three will work.

Go to “%UserProfile%\Zomboid” and delete the "mods" folder.

I had a problem like this while trouble shooting mods for b42. If you are using mods, are you using any trait mods ? When I came across a similar problem it was cause by one of the trait mods I was using. I think it was more traits , after activating the mod and the game went to reload the title screen. The title screen came back with the normal back ground but all the menu options were missing. Even if you deactivate the mod you will still need to follow the steps mentioned by Beard up above.

I dont want to honestly. I have zero interest in working through a dozens or more mods by hand again, so I can reapply them from scratch. No offense honestly, I just do not have the time for it. :)

Thanks for the hint, yet sadly, thats not it.
I think, I leave the game for now and check it out again on a later date again. Its not a serious issue. I can wait a little, till its figured out either by the devs or the modders itself.^^
