Fixed: Game crashes very often
I love this game however I can't enjoy it for more than 15 mins without the crash. It usually happens while zooming the view out to see the whole neighbourhood.
First it freezes, then the screen goes black and tiny text says "Loading textures". After another 10-15 seconds the game crashes completely to desktop.
I play on 64 bit Windows 7. I downloaded the newest Java. The crashes occur on standard PZ version. I don't play 64 bit version since the zoom seems to doesn't work there.

Any ideas? Is it just me?

Can you please check your console for output next time it happens and post the text here?

Sure, next time I will. Btw is there any manual way to save the game or it only saves the progress while quiting the game and after the sleep?

No manual way to save :)

I mean it's awesome that you can't simply load the game after you die. It keeps you aware and careful. I just wanted to save the game more often to reduce the amount of gameplay to catch up after the game crashes. :)

Unfortunately the only way would be to exit the game frequently to the Menu and reload the save. Maybe the devs will implement a "save" feature for Sandbox or something like that :)

I don't think you'll lose any progress, had a couple of crashes since I bouth it but the game always restored me back to where I was whe it crashed (it even tags the save name as CRASH).

So far after every crash I was starting from the latest wake up. I'm trying to avoid the maximum zoom out and in turn the crash rate decreased. Anyway I died after 5 days. Found a gun but I didn't stay alive enough to try it. Lol.
Can I ask one more thing? What's the difference between survive mode and sandbox?
Ontogenesis Nov 7, 2013 @ 5:06pm
Sandbox you can change the settings i.e. loot frequency, zombie density, zombie speed, zombie 'rules' etc. Survival is how the game is 'meant to be played' according to the developers wishes.

I've been a Zomboid Player for some months now... and I can already say "don't worry... they'll fix it..." cause they always do. The Devs are working hard to make it epic... I can't wait for the NPCs... and multiplayer... And the more you play it the more it grows on you and the more you uncover how addicting and varied this game really is.

Except they can't fix things if they don't know what the issue is.

Well, at least you can play for 15 mins. Crashes on start with me.

Download the newest Java update if you can't even run the game. It worked for me.

Well we can't help you if you do not tell us what your issue is. "It doesn't start" can have several reasons. My guess is: Install the correct Java version.
