Extreme lag on Mac, but little lag on Windows Bootcamping.
I had previously bootcamped Windows 7 and Windows 8 on my Macbook 2,1 (Mid 2006). When running on windows, the game would be playable, great fps for the system, but now that i've gotten rid of windows and am back to Mac OS Lion, the game is unplayable at 0-1 FPS. What's going on? Windows was running under 32-bit, my mac is a 64-bit processor so I don't see the issue if Windows could run it fine. I've turned all the settings down and optimized whatever I can but its too bad to play. Is there anything to be done or am I screwed?

3D models aren't supported. Intel GMA 950 at 400mhz w/ 64 mb of vram. Windows, fine, Mac, horrid

Might be worth testing to see if it's actually having some kind of trouble running, or just a difference between the systems.

Can you try (as EG says) turning everything down to minimum settings, and the resolution down to something tiny- like 800x600- and see if it improves at all?

My resolution is set the the smallest it'll go, by default. Zoom is "NOT SUPPOURTED" and every other setting besides 3D models is as low as it'll go, including lighting refresh, etc. 3D models are not suppourted either. Everything is as low as it can go, and yet the limbo line is still too low down.

That's really odd- I mean, your specs are pretty low, but shouldn't be running that bad.

Would you mind following some instructions in a YouTube video and seeing if there's any error output in the console?

This will let us know if something is specifically going on that's causing an issue.

Real quick. I'm running Mac OS Lion, so there is no username Library file, however there is a Zomboid folder just in my home directory. I have the console output from there, however I am going to remove it and reinstall the game just to get a clean console output. Thought maybe you could put that in your video if it is important.

I honestly don't understand what's going on besides the bunch of unknown Java commands in the console log.

There's a username Library in all OS X versions, it's just hidden in some of the newer ones. I suppose I should probably update it- you can find it by holding "alt" while the "Go" menu at the top of Finder is open, among other ways.

No, setting multicore to off made it worse. Maybe I should just repartition my hard disk and get Windows back up on a small portion just for this, but I'm not sure. I'll wait a while for other replies.
edit: oh, thanks for that alt-go info. I didn't know that. Thanks.

If you wouldn't mind following the video now and then copy-pasting the terminal output to something like pastebin.com so I could read it, that'd be great. The chances of anything useful are slim, but it's worth a shot.

Otherwise, you could make a partition or you could emulate the Windows version with Wine, which could help or could make it worse.

It's possible the OpenGL implementation for that graphics card on OS X just aren't as good as the Windows ones, but that would be unusual- it's typically the other way around.

Aye, no specific errors come up. Unfortunately the specs just may not cut it with the OS X implementation, as odd as that is. Might be worth making sure you don't have any other applications open, but as much as I hate to say it you might be out of luck. Only other thing I notice is that I think the lighting is set to the highest setting instead of the lowest (it works backwards of how you'd think if I recall correctly).
shelevenspace Oct 4, 2014 @ 3:55pm
I thought Lowest was lowest, highest was really weird looking from what I was used to. I suppose I'll just try to wipe my hard drive and partition it for windows again. Thanks for the help though.

Sorry I couldn't do any better for ya Casey. Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help!

Hey, it's no problem. I really like being able to play the game in any form, let it be partitioning my drive or not. Maybe the mac version will eventually be optimized, but I don't really expect that haha. Thanks for the help, and no problemo

I ran into this same issue. For me I set everything as low as possible except 3d models. I left them at their default settings. What actually made the difference though was running in compatibility mode. Still not exactly smooth but actually playable vs fighting a 5-10sec input delay.
