How the hell do I attach Trailers to a Car in build 42?

I am trying to attach my car to trailer I found and I click v and select the plus symbol to add my car to the trailer. Every time I try it says "Can't find a way to attach." Can some one tell me if i need a rope or something to connect or if it's a bug in the game?

I found that if you park your car a little distance away from the trailer hook up then it should work. Obviously if it's too far away then you just need to keep backing up until you find that sweet spot to let it attach.
