I can't use the trigger buttons on my Xbox controller
I've tried everything in the book. Tried every setting possible on steam. Watched videos on YouTube. Read a bunch of posts on reddit.

Nothing. I did notice when I go to the controller settings in the game, I am unable to change the sensitivity.

When I press the trigger buttons they go further then the blue shown on the bars I'm the test.

I think I have 4 hours in the game trying to solve this. Please help me out lol

I'm still in the tutorial where I have to attack the first zombie and can't do anything.

Btw yes I'm aiming with the right stick, highlighting the zombie, and pressing RT at the same time. I'm lost here.

When I tried solo mode, I was able to use LT to push and also stomp on the zombies.

But I still can't use RT at all.

Must be a glitch I think.

Can you share your logs.zip file found in C:\Users\YourUserName\Zomboid?
You can use any file-sharing website of your choice or a temporary one like filetransfer.io for example.

Of course, here you go!

Thanks, it looks like we managed to make filetransfer.io go down, or at least I cannot download anything from them at the moment (maybe they banned me for downloading too many logs)
You can either upload it elsewhere or I will wait a few hours to see if it fixes itself.

I'm sorry, I just saw this. What about here?

Thanks, I cannot see any specific issues in the game.

Could you try manually configuring your controller?
You will have to go to C:\Users\YourUserName\Zomboid\joypads and edit the controller config file, in there you will have to focus on this part:

// If your triggers are buttons, set the button numbers here.
// If these are set to something other than -1, then Triggers= is ignored.
TriggerLeft=4
TriggerRight=5

The trigger numbers you need to set here should show up when you go to the game Options > Controller section and press the trigger buttons. You have to write those numbers here and then save the file.

If the triggers are instead shown as blue bars and not numbers, set both of them to -1

I'm not sure why but I get zero notifications when you reply. I'm sorry about seeing this late. I am going to try that when I get home!

Thanks for the quick responses from you. I appreciate that.

I checked the file. This is what it shows:

TriggersFlipped=false
// If your triggers are buttons, set the button numbers here.
// If these are set to something other than -1, then Triggers= is ignored.
TriggerLeft=4
TriggerRight=5
Disabled=false
Sensitivity=0.2

I also checked the settings in game. It shows sensitivity at 0.2 which I cant adjust on there. Regarding the trigger buttons on my gamepad, the bars showed the left one filling up the bar more than the right when I click on them.

Is there any other recommendation you could make? I'm stumped. I tried uninstalling and installing. Tried verifying the files as well. Am I doing anything wrong when I'm trying to attack? When a zombie approaches me, I walk towards and point the right stick at them until they're highlighted. Then I press RT to attack. With a weapon of course.

What else can you recommend I do? My right trigger works in every other game.

Have you tried setting both of them to -1 as mentioned? Since you did not write that you did such a change in your reply.

To be honest I initially read it the opposite of that saying not to have it at that.

So I just did it. The values are just like the d-pad ones above them.

Started it up again. Now this time both of the triggers aren't working even though I was able to at least push and stomp with LT before. Now I can't do that either.

That is pretty unusual, can you share your logs.zip file found in C:\Users\YourUserName\Zomboid?

Additionally, can you specify what kind of controller you have? Is it the standard Xbox Wireless Controller?

So my wifi has been down and I can't do anything on my computer. I did send the logs file earlier in this thread, but I wouldn't be able to send the updated one at the moment.

My controller is an 8bitdo ultimate 2.4G

I am not familiar with that controller, is it considered an Xbox controller? Since all the info on it seems to be for the Nintendo Switch.

Your game logs look perfectly fine, which means we need to focus on the controller config possibly having issues.

Can you check if your Controller has the latest firmware installed? For Xbox controllers you can do it through the Xbox app:

Hello again! I finally got the internet working and I checked my 8bitduo gamepad software. The firmware is indeed updated. I have no issue with any other game. I'm not really sure what else I can do at this point.. unfortunate. I really wanted to play.
