Project Zomboid

Project Zomboid

40-60 FPS ===> 4-5 FPS (Build 42.1)
Lowest graphics settings.
The performance improved slightly i.g, however the issue with FPS count suddenly dropping to 4 FPS still wasn't resolved in this patch.

Remember some people saying they had the same issue even on high-end PCs since when B42's first unstable version was released (42.0.0).
Tried lowering the so-called "vermin index", and I still experience random FPS drop to single digits all of a sudden.

Allocated more RAM to the game, and as it seems, it didn't help much either. B42 "eats" a ton of RAM, wich could probably be the reason, and this "single-digit" FPS drops occuring randomly seems more like the game's issue tbh, hot hardware, sueing by some other similar posts about this issue.

Hope it gets adressed the next patch as well

Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6300HQ CPU
16 Gb of RAM
Playing on a laptop, however I had 80+ FPS in Build 41 and it seems to be even more optimized than current B42 is now.

However the same thing happened to other people playing on actual high-end PCs, according to a few posts describing a similar issues on forum and steam discussions, wich were posted earlier. So I don't think that could be a pc/laptop issue then, especially since B42 should've been more "optimized" than B41 is, and for me it's completely different at the moment.

I have 40-60 FPS, sometimes getting to 80 and higher, and then suddenly they drop to 4 FPS, so I have to pause the game and wait for a few mins to play normally again.
Can you elaborate? I have a weaker laptop and it does not have such low FPS, does this happen when starting a new game?
I had noticeable lags while driving in 42.0.

Pretty decent specs 32GB, 2080, never had something like this on 41.X
If you disable dynamic skyboxes, all lags should be gone even when Driving (especially when driving).

No idea what ties those two together, but it is how it is.

Yes, I made a new save in Build 42.1 just now. At first, I may have high enough FPS to play normally (minimum I had is like 40, and maximum is 60-80).

Then, all of a sudden, I get 4 FPS.Can only fix it by pausing the game and simply waiting a bit, but the more I play on my save, the lower FPS I get.

I've set vermin index to 20 in sandbox options (to prevent "rat-apocalypse" from happening), didn't change much either. Lighting quality option is set to low, dynamic puddles are disabled, older fog enabled (build 40-like fog option) and etc, lowered the resolution of vehicle textures as well, disabled dynamic skybox. Texture compression's also enabled for less RAM usage. However I still have this issue happen.

It doesn't happen only while driving, but when walking and doing other not driving-related stuff as well.

And what is dynamic skyboxes? I'm glad it could be solved, just want to know what would I disable.

This may imply other issues, are you starting in Sandbox mode or Apocalypse? I suggest testing in Apocalypse if you are testing in Sandbox.

So I have multiple things that could help FPS:

1. Tiered Zombies - Yes
2. Corpses Shadow - No
3. Blood Decals - 50%
4. Water Quality - Low
5. Dynamic Skybox - No

It was happening both in apocalypse mode and sandbox mode previously, I'll try playing apocalypse in 42.1 soon to check again then

I've played on Apocalypse mode rn, and this issue is still present there
Can you share your logs.zip file found in C:\Users\%UserProfile%\Zomboid?
You can use any file-sharing website of your choice or a temporary one like filetransfer.io for example.

Sorry for late responce, I've tested the build on Apocalypse mode in vanilla as u said b4
Here is the logs link: https://limewire.com/d/143b2d0a-e6fa-4237-8c4a-3e376f218bae#rAB09IwI2MCvmqBj487UvQ9jjLrX1HqJBLoyqtsI2G0

I've also just tried to allocate more memory by editing ProjectZomboid64.bat file and launching it then (set "-Xmx5G"), - didn't help much either.
The logs specify that you have an integrated and a dedicated card, but your PC chose to use the low performance integrated card for the game.

Can you check out these links and make sure your dedicated card is being used to launch the game instead of your integrated one?

It's using integrated graphics cars, due to the dedicated one being kinda broken at the momtny, so I can't switch to the dedicated one right now sadly
