Project Zomboid

Project Zomboid

Save corruption first time encounter in all years of playing
Played zomboid for many, many years. Modded usually, various errors but never like this:

Nothing changed since last play
reload, instantly infinite errors piling up at a high rate, I quit after over 1000.
Before I quit, there was a zombie in the basement of my base, liquor shelves have things in it while not displaying its various has things in it texture. A lot of items seem to be missing, so a lot of my loot.
I reload and this is now the save.

B42 of course,

not too many mods, the firearms beta 42 mod, propane fix, no need for a lighter mod, the common sense mod and a clothing mod all b42 compatible.

I've already had this save with maybe over 10 hours into it, was there some sort of update that happened within the last 5 days?
In all the years playing I have never experienced a problem like this which is really deflating if you have put in a ton of hours into a character but there is always the thought that this can happen.
Having an auto save back up would correct this but at the same time defeat the purpose of perma death.

I doubt you played unstable beta build + unstable beta mod all those years...
ngl, even pure 42 is kinda annoying atm due early beta state.

Just to understand, you play with mods on the very early Unstable Version 42?

Save corruption and various other issues would be very much expected in that case, I suggest you try replicating the issue without mods first, otherwise I cannot help much.

Thank you for the response, yes minor tweaks to the gameplay experience post testing. The the only information I can give is that after hours put in, once starting up a few days later from last save my character was in the correct position, errors piled up rapidly all the way past 1000 before I quit. It is as if the world partially reset, vehicles and approximately half items were in place, many missing, including tables moved and repositioned place-able items. There was a zombie in the basement of my base as stated. I dont know if this implies for some reason the save partially reverted to previous. Mods sure, could be an issue, however some of the items like moved tables are not from the mods, or why it would partially revert. I don't have an idea of what the 1000 errors were but I would have to wonder if it had to do with bodies that were killed over time that were still on the ground when the save loaded, and only guessing as to why it was partially reset. Though even in this - what appears to be the save reverting to a somewhat earlier time, the zombie would not have been in the basement as it was lived in for quite a while. This error would make the game near unplayable for obvious reasons. This is all the info I can give as to what happened if it is valuable. All the years of playing with an incredible amount of mods this has never happened, I havent had an issue with "save confidence" ever. The issue would remain if this is not necessarily understood eventually as this goes to stable branch this issue could possible reoccur as modding is part of the zomboid experience, and while many use too many where problems can be foreseen just due to sheer numbers, I prefer just minimal which is within the scope of the games vision
I am not sure what happened but, I have over 500 hours of GP on Zomboid and I can't even launch the game anymore. I have followed every step of every guide i could find. EVERY, STEP........ of EVERY.... Guide. I literally uninstalled my entire steam library and steam to reinstall everything to try to play the game. Still nothing. Did build 42 completely kill my ability to play the game?

I suggest reporting issues created by mods to the mod creators, it would not be a game issue if a third party modification causes problems.

Did you also wipe the Zomboid folder in your User folder? As that may be necessary for a full reinstallation.
Hey. That is the problem. I do not have any mods. I literally wiped my PC and started from scratch on the install. The entire library was gone for steam and it still will not load the menu screen. It gives me error 3 in a red box in the lower right corner.

I was referring to the OP with that answer, since this is not your thread.

If you have even after wiping the Zomboid folder, can you share your logs.zip file found in C:\Users\%UserProfile%\Zomboid?
You can use any file-sharing website of your choice or a temporary one like filetransfer.io for example.

I think this is still valuable because it appears to trigger things from the base game, and may have a clue to some issue that may be bound to pop up later. If it was simply just a mod in the sense that it was clear that what had happened only related to the aspects of the game that the mod changes I wouldn't have posted and if necessary spoken with the modders. Inevitably I think it is worth noting since the workshop is obviously endorsed by the team as part of the experience, and I am specifically relating this to issues that may come up due to some sort of base game error or misread. Like what could cause a partial revert in time (base game items disappearance, base game placeables moved or disappeared), what could cause respawning of z's in safe zones with no respawn on, what could cause something such as this to a random point and it isnt even clear if the partial reset was back to a specific time period or mixed, with items post this period being around.
Anyway thank you for your responses.

Something seems wrong with your logs, they look several months out of date, as if the last time you played was September.

I suggest you go to “C:\Users\%UserProfile%\Zomboid” and delete everything there except the “Saves” folder.

Then replicate the issue. If it still fails to load, share the logs again.
