2. That is the maximum resolution on the Steam Deck, therefore that is the max resolution on the game and all other games.
I tried disabling auto-zoom, but it did not fix the issue. Tested it again with the keyboard and still didn't work with auto-zoom disabled.
As for the res. that's not necessarily true: the deck will adapt to whatever the resolution capabilities are of an external monitor, so when testing this game in Steam Deck desktop mode with an external monitor, the resolution was still limited to 1280x800 while other games run in this way will allow to the resolution to go higher in line with my monitor. PZ for some reason just won't, while on my PC/Laptop it will... i.e. my steam deck is currently displaying on an external monitor at 1920/1080 in desk top mode, PZ is still limited to 1280x800 here (other steam deck games aren't while in desktop mode on an external monitor), while PZ adapts to my laptop resolution capabilities.
One other issue I am experiencing: a constant flashing in the game screen regardless of the environment. It's not an issue with the Steam Deck as it only shows up in PZ while playing it also shows up regardless of being on the deck screen or an external monitor.
It might be best to focus on a single issue at a time, I assumed you did not connect any external monitors to the deck, because as mentioned, the decks standard resolution is 1280x800, connecting another monitor will not update the resolution list, which is why you cannot select any other resolutions.
You can in that case go to your Home/Zomboid folder and edit the options.ini file there, you can change the resolution manually in the first two lines.
Alternatively, delete the Lua folder there to reset the resolution list, then start the game while the monitor is connected.
Is the dpad supposed to show a menu for manually zooming in or out? when using the dpad with the "official layout of project zomboid" controller settings, the dpad only seems to have two functions for me: holding down brings up a circular menu for interactions (thumbs up/down, shout, etc.) and holding > brings up a menu for maps. <, ^ do nothings, but the little Y Inventory, X Interact icons on the bottom left of the screen disappear when I press them. Idk if that is what you meant or at all helpful. thank you.
btw, started a new game in a new town, that flashing I mentioned is still going on... never experienced that before... kind feeling like i'm at a loss here. again I can play this game on my laptop and everything runs as it should, just really want it to work for me on the deck. it's an easier thing to lug around when traveling.
They will only show up if you have Auto Zoom disabled and when you are not running the game in Compatibility mode.
I tried that and the option to zoom was not in that menu... HOWEVER, I recently learned that the flash was due to "dymanic skybox" being on... not sure what that's about. AND I was apparently locked into playing in compatibility mode which completely disables zoom... Fixed and it's working for me now.
Thank you for all the assistance here, it is much appreciated!
