Friend can't see me or interact with me in multiplayer

Hi everyone,

I and my friend were playing on a modded server (I hosted it, it's not dedicated) for a while and wanted to add some mods and start a new world. I'm having an issue with the new world and I hope someone can help me out.

Whenever my friend joins the server, after a little while (it differs between 2-30 minutes) he can't see me or interact with me anymore, and he says the corpse inventories before the bug happens have gone empty.

After this happens, he also can't leave the chunk as there is a black border preventing him from doing so. I can do everything correctly and I can see him.

We're both stumped as to what could be causing this issue. We've tried a few things like restarting the server and removing the last added mods but nothing seems to be working, the problem still occurs. Has anyone else experienced something similar or have any suggestions for how we can fix this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Update: We tried it on vanilla multiplayer without any mods but the problem is still there.

Sounds like a desync issue, what is your friends ping on the server?

It's around 70-80 ms. When I disappear for him, his ping doesn't change. He is using the same internet when playing on the first server.

Is he perhaps playing on a wifi as well? Since that may cause a desync too, perhaps a temporary wifi drop would just cause him to desync from the server.
