Cant get my PS4 controller to work at all Please Help!

I mapped all the keyboard and mouse inputs that i want to my controller via steam but the game just won't read anything from my controller i even tried using DS4Windows but nothing happens even if i use that,

It works fine on any other game i try as i am always making my own custom maps for the games i play but Project Zomboid just won't read my inputs,

This is a great game but i suck at combat with mouse and keyboard so i really want to get it working please help if anyone has any ideas why it won't work.

Iv tried launching the game in big picture mode and changing various steam controller settings but nothing works at all

Do you have the PS4 support enabled in Big Picture mode?

Yes and i tried the other controller support options too but nothing happened

The controller should just work fine in that case, unless some other software is causing issues with it. I would recommend reinstalling the game fully just to make sure there are no issues with the configuration.

First, uninstall the game, then go to "Steam\steamapps\common\ProjectZomboid" and make sure there are no leftover files or folders there.
After that, go to "C:\Users\YourUserName\Zomboid" and delete everything there except the "Saves" folder.
Then just install the game again and see if that helps.

I just tried that but nothing changed, it still doesn't work :(

Hm, just to test if Steam is not causing any isssues with the controller...
Go to “Steam\steamapps\common\ProjectZomboid” on your PC and edit the ProjectZomboid64.bat file there with a text editor.
Change the two -Dzomboid.steam=1 lines to -Dzomboid.steam=0
This will disable Steam when launching the game.

Now, turn off your steam client and any steam background programs (if any)
Then launch the .bat file. The game should now launch totally without Steam, see if the controller works then?

I tried that but nothing happened and then i tried using DS4Windows and i got it to work but only the right joystick to move the mouse and the triggers to use mouse right and left click but no matter how i changed the mapped settings that was all i could use on the controller.

i have got it working now AT LAST!
I had to set the inputs to the original PS4 controller inputs and not keyboard and mouse buttons mapped to the controller, then when i load into the game i had to press the X button (A on Xbox controller) and it brings up a little menu in the top left corner to select what character i want to control with the controller and then it worked perfectly.

So much trouble and frustration for such a small thing!

Only problem now is when using the controller like this the game ignores all keyboard and mouse input but i wanted to map the keyboard keys to my controller and only use the controller for combat and driving.

At the moment, we do not support keyboard/mouse inputs while using the controller. So that would be normal.

I hope it gets added sometime soon because i like to make custom controller mappings for most the games i play,
Its mostly a lot of quality of life changes for convenience but now i can't play a game without changing the controls to suit my preferences.
