Backpack Bottom Slot
As far as I can tell... the Backpack Bottom Slot is only available for a sleeping bag?? So it's enough space to stash a sleeping bag or a packed-up tent, but I can't use the slot for holding a screwdriver or hammer? Do developers seek ways of trying to upset people?

Does someone know of a mod which allows this slot to be used for anything... since it can literally hold an entire packed-up tent?

Have you seen a hiking backpack in real life? The "bottom slot" is two large straps with a buckle.

If you can comfortably tie up something as tiny as a screwdriver to that, without making the backpack more unwieldy, that would be a superhuman feat!

Then it should allow an optional larger item into the slot. Good job ignoring how the two large straps can be modified for smaller items in real life.

Isnt this just a game design decision made by the devs? To have a special slot for sleeping bags only. Using the in real life reason to justify your point is kinda unfair looking at the fact, that it can be applied to almost all reasons. In real life I have never seen anyone use that for any other purpose, as that backbottom is intended for sleepingbags. In real life we have 2 hands, why we don't have dual wielding in the game? is a similar statement as yours, the game devs decided not to. To be fair it would be nice yes as that slot could be used for an additional axe or something, in the end it is just a game, and these are the rules and tools the game devs given us. It has nothing to do with the devs trying to upset anyone
It's for the same reason you can't put a big flashlight in your holster, or stick a hunting rifle on your belt, or wear kneepads around your neck...

Decision to do what? Allow to use straps designed for a tent or a sleeping bag to be used to carry a tent or a sleeping bag? It is a decision, alongside with their decision to use knifes for carving and guns to shoot. This one probably wasn't a hard one either.

They definitely can allow something like a log or a twigs/firewood bundle in this slot, but it's probably not too high in their priority list.

If it isnt so hard, why not make a mod yourself? Coding in these additional items for that certain slot, is harder than you think, without bugs, conflicts or other problems it comes with.

Everything is possible, that is what mods are for, however most modders wont bother till build 42 is more stable. So you want the devs finish build 42 faster or you want them to also focus on such minor requests, that it will take longer. The chances are even higher that it isnt even on their priority list. I rather have the devs spend time on finishing build 42 than such minor things, that have such low impact to the majority of playthroughs
These suggestions are so cute. I can tell that NONE of the people talking about adding items under a backpack have actually done that in real life.

Anything that's slung underneath the pack is going to be bumping into you ever step you take. Usually it's sleeping bags and/or rolled up plastic sleeping pads. Both are soft and super light. Plus, most of the time you need to add those items while you have the pack off and then pick the whole mess up and get it on. Trying to do that with a bundle of firewood attached to the bottom would be hilarious. I'll pay money to watch that, but give me some notice so I can make some popcorn.

I agree lol, it is even cuter to see that they think it is easy to implement within the game, as unrealistic it is in real life and more complicated to implement ingame.

Firewood bundle weight 20-35 pounds additional, lets sink that in how unrealistic that sound in real life and in game

Never carried logs under backpack, also never had my tent bumping into me every step I take, can't really imagine how annoying walking like this would be.

If it slams into you every step - it's not properly attached. If it can move at all it's not properly attached.

Wrong, perfect online example... Tier 1 Concealed MSP Series (Modern Samurai Project):

Retention: Also focuses retention on the attached weapon light (typically the Surefire X300, Streamlight TLR-1, or Modlite PL350).

Universal Fit: The retention mechanism is based on the dimensions of the light, allowing the same holster to be used with dozens of different handguns or to carry the big flashlight alone.

==========

Your other examples is flawed logic since it's hunting rifle on the belt or kneepads on the neck are large items on smaller areas... verses the actual topic of a larger area carrying smaller items.

As an actual hiker myself... I'm well aware people are customizing their backpacks for many different ways than its original design. The fact some people never actually talk with other hikers in person or online about customizing a backpack yet pretend the sleeping bag slot can't be used for smaller items is hilarious.
It's the equivalent of saying bed sheets can only be used for beds and nothing else.

"Your argument is invalid, because I once saw a mod that let me do the thing" falls rather flat though.

There's MANY examples in real life... not a 'once saw a mod'. Go outside once in awhile.
Developers usually seek ways not to upset people, but people like you always find the way to get upset.

"Realism is always a good guiding method... except when its not favoring me."
Classic.
Anyway. Can we get a chair to strap there? The folding type. I know I can just sit on the ground to rest but those chairs could provide the rest our characters need, in style.

Plus those things usually come with a cheap nylon bag. And that got me thinking. Same with tents or sleep gear. Clothing like rain gear could go there, or maybe your heavy jacket. But normally these things are wrapped somehow. To keep whatever it is out of the elements, plus you don't want to snag anything and ruin it. And it's wrapped tight so nothing is lost. So was thinking that slot could also be used to hold items in a bag of sorts.

Could wrap all my fishing gear and put it in that slot, for example, then reach the location and lay it all out on the ground nice and neat. Of course realistically those straps aren't designed to hold much weight so I'd still want some restrictions included in game. A tarp works for this though. However, this isn't the place you keep the items used the most. Maybe it could hold a screw driver but getting to it would take more time than if it was in your fanny pack. You'd have to place it on the ground before getting access to what's inside. That's how I picture it.

I wouldn't mind having quick access to a chair, rain gear, winter gear. Things like that. Things that actually make sense in that slot. Tents included of course. Planning ahead makes it simple to decide what to take. Leaving it empty makes sense as well. If my plan is to carry a lot of items back with me, I wouldn't pack dead weight that has no use, allowing me to carry more.

Could lay a tarp out, throw all your cuts of meat on there from butchering, wrap it up, strap it on. Same with fish. Raid a garden quickly and not have to worry about getting dirt in my pack. Could keep going and offer 100 examples but I'll stop there.
