Chickens keep dying to foxes
Even after fully encloused pen with craftman wood walls all around, with a coop inside, and me sleeping right beside of it (make the peen besides of my house with the only entrance being from my house). and the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ chickens keep dying. build 42.16.
the only thing i can image it could be is a bug with the corresponded 2 mods i have, (IU for items and UI for body health) but otherwise i cannot understand what happened.

PD: i got so piss off after my last chicken die i unistalled the game, which is the point of playing if i cannot keep my chickens safe.

To my knowledge the only thing taken in to account with that meta event is if the hutch/coop is closed at night. Yes, it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid if I am correct but opening and closing it is, to my knowledge the only means to prevent the fox event.
Minnzy is correct. The predator meta event only cares about the hutch door being closed at night.
It's a pain in the butt cause you are basically married to your base from there on. If you have to spend the night away expect to be taxed a chicken. I turn it off in my games.
To be fair though, I think it is just a stand-in event. I imagine in the future there will be actual foxes doing the killing.
Can you not just build a high wall?

Maybe in the future if they add in actual foxes. What it really is is just the game simulating a predator of some sort (foxes are just the provided head canon) taking one of your chickens. It is a dice roll against a percentage table.
The only two conditions that play into this is: it's night time, the hutch door is open.
It's hard to stay updated on the game, but there are many places that say that the predator meta event doesn't happen if the fence is closed. Even the wiki says if there's a hutch in the livestock zone, it will prevent them being killed by the meta event.
This is the issue with most base mechanics. Generators & fuel , predator events you get base bound and it reduces your propensity to explore the map in SP. It's one reason I like the RV mod . It allows me to store fresh food and still explore the map.

First I have heard of it. I did some snooping around and it looks like the game DOES consider "sheltered" tiles in a livestock zone. The more sheltered tiles, the more protected they are from triggering the meta predator event.
Supposedly there is a way to completely protect them but I could not really find anything solid. I guess if you had them inside a building it would probably prevent it cause there is no way for the meta predator event to "get to them". I am guessing it maybe works similar to how the zombie respawns work? The game tests to see if there is a route into the space, if there isn't then zombie spawns are prevented. I would imagine chickens would be a little different cause hawks and eagles can grab them up theoretically, so overhead cover is considered.
Only chickens I had that died were males that often killed each other. One would be fine until junior grew up and I'd find one or both dead.
Had over 25 in small area with chain link fence (short) 1 hutch. The chicks would fit through wires and started wandering beyond the fence, probably as many outside fence as in.
Anyway, never came across any dead that would be from fox events only the males fighting.
... tons of eggs!!
Well, I thought about just living with the chickens, but at that time we're all dead, additionally, my chickens died outside the coop sometimes and during the day, when I was away etc. very annoying ♥♥♥♥, thats why I think must to be a bug from the 2 mods I mentioned before, or maybe just a bug from the game, like the fact some sprinters have no audio. Anyway, just wanted to know if I was the only one with this problem..
Just put your chikens in any building, first floor also great signalization, hutch don't needed inside, ofc make livestock zone on first floor, it's just example, building is safe solution, important thing don't make hutch and don't forgot about food and water for them, all doors must be closed

According to the Sandbox settings, Animal Meta Events are directly linked to an open Hutch-Door. So if your Livestock-Zone has no hutch or one with an open door, your are not raising chicken - you are feeding foxes.
It's okay, I will try next time to make it on a second floor and see.. however, I would like to have some feedback from a developer or something, I understand that having chickens is op and is understandable to be hard to raise them, but at least give me a hard solution... Not a random ♥♥♥♥ and dead chickens everywhere.. the only npc that doesn't try to kill you and die like flies...
I've never experienced this issue with fenced in chickens, with the hutch remaining open in the zone. It may be something specific to 16, maybe. I don't know. But chickens? Certainly not op, especially with some of us trying to say it's because you left the door open over night. I will say, though, that is the kind of behavior we can expect from development, where you're punished for forgetting to cross your I's and dot your t's. Can't win for losing.
This is one of those situations where I understand the realism, and Im glad the option is there but I personally turn off the predators for the chickens. While it is relatively common IRL (not just foxes, but coyotes and even neighborhood dogs) I think there should be more options to mitigate the death due to predator i.e. building a specific fence around the coop
Personally, I feel like meta events are cheap workarounds like gunshots that can't be traced as if it was just a product of your imagination.

I'd say they should not have been added to the game in the first place. I don't feel any guilt in disabling them.
