Is tailoring worth it? (new player)
Hi, i'm VERY interested in tailoring because i like the idea of improving the clothes/armor i could find (i saw some videos), but... does it really worth it?

The cons it seems to me are:
1: it makes you heavier
2:it warms very much
3: the look is not terrible after the modifications
4: i rarely see a streamer using it...
If you are an experimented player of PZ, can you tell me your points of view, please?

Tailoring can be worth it if find a lot of clothes with holes but decent protections. You also have a better chance of getting materials out of ripped clothing. At high enough levels you can fully restore clothing to get them back to the original defense. Finally higher levels are provide better protection when patching or padding.

I would recommend taking a look at this whenever you have time.

Tailoring is a great skill to have, just a bit annoying to level up. The benefits are great. You can increase bite/scratch defense on clothing so much, that you can tank a lot more then without. Also the ability to fully repair clothing at level 8 is really nice.

I have not heard or seen that tailoring makes you heavier (gathering the material might) or warmer. Streamers are... streamers. They stream to entertain others.

1. Barely noticeable, so no
2. No it doesn't it depends on how much clothes you use not patches
3. You can mod the aspect for darker or invisible if it bothers you
4. Streamers are not known to live long on games they are either not experienced or play on insane ready to die settings to entertain audience. You think ppl will last in a hardcore apocalypse seeing the streamer playing? Doubt it they will get bored fast.

Tailoring is one of the skills YOU MUST USE & LEVEL. It helps protects from fails from overconfidence from the player and mantain clothes you may like.

it's a skill, just tear up clothing and patch up a dummy piece of clothing to train your character. there's also a mod that automates the patching so you don't die from boredom, while leveling the skill

Thank you Rapid Pump and Master Exploder.

And thank you very much The cursed Jäger and Siodog, it was the answers i waited for, you convinced me! Focus tailoring! ✂️ 😀

It's great, being able to just add +10 bite and +20 scratch defense to practically anything is amazing and has no doubt saved myself and my friends on our server many times.

it's the best skill in the game because it allows you to avoid losing all of your other skills

There's mods that make it so patches on your clothing don't show up on your player, as well as you being able to choose the "simple clothing" drop down option in the main menu (for both zombie and players or one of the two).

Not heard of ever getting warmer from patching a few holes in my clothing, let alone my clothes becoming heavier with a few patches added.

I would say tailoring is definitely worth it, for the tankiness alone it makes the trade worth it.

If you're good at evasion and clever about surviving, then no. You likely wouldn't need armor if you're that rare person that never takes hits.

If you're playing with melee weapons and nothing else, then yes. Tailoring can save you from being bitten if you make a mistake, assuming you can live long enough to level it. It won't utterly prevent you from dying but your longevity will increase if you keep switching gear. Assuming you make mistakes at all. Which I do.

Hopefully with the animations and interpolation improved at some point escaping on the fly will be less hazardous. Apparently there are people surviving with maxed trait sprinters with high pop. I haven't even survived more than 3 months with heli and fast shamblers, and only lived a week with sprinters + heli. I also still don't know how to effectively use molotovs or guns, but I gave up on playing.

I'm also hoping the devs will add more options in the settings to limit memory usage. That has nothing to do with tailoring, just adding it in.

It's a waste of time unless you mod the weights of clothes out.
It's better to just go naked and not get hit instead

THIS.

I play with custom sandbox settings, and frequently just turn off transmission of the infection entirely, so I don't even have to worry about getting bitten... and I STILL consider it one of the most important skills in the game.

If you're playing with transmission on, its absolutely essential.

And the fact that you don't see streamers using it... I wouldn't pay much attention to that. I've lost count of the streamers I've seen who clearly have the equivalent of some kind of god mode turned on. They don't want things like playing the actual game interfering with their making content for it.

Definetly, thank you all for your interesting points of view. 😉

they are not just worth it, they are META. Check out the art section and you will see a lot meme about minmaxer players running around grinding tailor and wearing fully padded clothes. Also never trust streamers to guide you in playing games.

I don't use tailored protection. I haven't been caught for a long time so effort grinding up and using the skill is a waste.

Maxed out with near-max layers in winter, I made a big mistake and got hit with like 5 attacks. Not a scratch. Not even to the clothes. Similar incident later resulted in 1 scratch. Eventually got surprised by the speed of a pair of door lurkers and one of them bit my freaking hand while I was pushing the other (only 1 layer possible there). I care more about it in the late-game though. More progress to lose.
