See the building called "Food Market"? The top left-most window is above the hardware store. If you use the back entrance to the food market you can access both it and the hardware store.

I dont get the explanation, he says top left-most window is above the hardware store. But there is no dot representing the hardware store and the explaination leads to a random house... Did you look at the map?
