If you enjoy this game's complexity you might also enjoy Cataclysm, which is free.
Its a while ago but I can't remember to grow crops, barricade windows or even create your own structures but what I remember ist hunting down rabbits, a lot mor ranged weapons, military bunkers and spitter zombies ... :/ so these are quite different themes I think.
Cataclysm focus' a lot more on a general nuclear apocalypse, so things such as mutated beasts, "special" zombies, cyborg implants etc etc, where as PZ is your classic "romero" style zombie apocalypse, no "special" zombies or mutated beasts.
It's crafting system is EXTENSIVE. Implants are fun. Mutations are fun. Leveling skills doesn't require you to level then invest a skill point into it first. Lots of buildable things. Dig ditches for spike traps. Play with rocket launchers. Set houses on fire and more!
Anyways it's a complex game like Dwarf Fortress, but it's not very pretty and it's not as fast paced as PZ. Also there's no multiplayer(when PZ gets it).
Regarding the above post, I would say that Cataclysm is incredibly fast paced compared to what I played of the PZ demo.
And the full game is so much better than the demo.
Try getting the latest stable build from the DDA website. It's completely open source, so you can even download the code and comb though it if you're worried it's a virus. (it isn't)
The maps are very similar. Urban / suburban exploration with wandering undead.
Both are great games and I doubt PZ is a copy of DDA, maybe just coincedence that they share some similar features.
its a copy of the challenge "A very crappy day" and you know, CD:DA, C:DDA.
I think I was the only one to get the CD:DA joke...
This should help.
