Project Zomboid

Project Zomboid

What is there to do? Game seems repetitive
It just seems like each playthrough is the same: spawn, raid the police station/fire department, go to military surplus, arrive at louisville
After which, it just seems like theres nothing else to do, I'm completely stacked to the brim with loot and guns and the only thing that keeps the game intresting is the helicopter event and I guess shooting in the middle of louisville. (yes I know its better with friends, I play it with friends but this is tackling single-player)

use up your stuff. just because you have a lot of loot doesn't mean you will live long term, eventually you will run out or die. The goal of the game is to stay alive, something will kill you at some point always.

I recommend downloading the 10 years later mod and making a sandbox with all loot set to extremely/ insanely rare, this makes the loot feel way more valuable.

Overall might just not be a game for you idk. its a sandbox game you make your own goals.

Yea... the game just doesn't have much to do besides getting "set up", which even on extreme settings is not that hard (unless you enable runners or something, which at that point the game becomes extremely tedious). I'm still hoping they add NPCs with various objectives to complete or some sort of overall goal to the game, but as of now it's very barren in terms of actual gameplay.

Some people enjoy these types of games, but assuming you're like me then just move on and maybe revisit it once a year or so. The development cycle is extremely slow so don't expect much to have changed when you come back.

I have been playing for 7 months and over 800 hours and still not bored and that's impressive to me as i usually get bored with most games after a month or so. PZ may not be for everyone though. I like to immerse myself into the character with some roleplay. I make missions for myself like currently I RP in a search for other survivors and I keep a journal of my characters travels, etc. I also like to collect and repair vehicles and the vehicle mods are quite awesome. I also like to build up safehouse in diffrent locations as fallback areas. But to each his own.

You make your own goals. Make a giant cardboard box fort, or collect every mannequin in the world, make it a goal to demolish an entire town top to bottom, make it a goal to collect one of every vehicle and mechanics them all to as close to 100% as you can get. Make it a goal to survive through winter without canned food; Or to survive in a single ell of the world, or do a tile-man challenge where you're restricted to a single tile and can only gain more by killing zombies... So very many possibilities and things to do or try.

It's a sandbox game. The 'things to do' is to accomplish whatever goals you set for yourself.

If you used all the ammo up so quickly you are screwed. If its default settings, as time pass zombies reach peak. You should slow it down explore methodically as they say. Take it a day at a time. Things change after time. Weird stuff happens. I get it the initial massacre can be satisfying. Make you feel like the don. but you know. Was it smart?

If you are at a point where you can reliably do all those things, I´m willing to bet that you already invested quite a bit of time into the game. Cause these sure as hell aren´t first playthrough things.
So just through that you probably already got your moneys worth, if that is your issue. Aside from that, like the others said, challange yourself by deviating from your norm

Most of my playtime/drive did come from multi but on top of that I used that mod that adds boomboxes and music tapes and set about getting a collection of all the "sacred tapes" I added. I also would dedicate myself to clearing out a specific POI or general area (I play with spawns turned off), spent like a week of in game time carving a bloody path to the gun store in westpoint...didn't actually do anything with the guns afterwards now that I think about it but still, was fun at the time.

You really gotta set your own goals, some being more lofty than others, and enjoy the core gameplay loop while doing it.

I'm 700 hours in myself. But advice from one Gamer to another - no Game is forever. If this game is done for you, C'est La Vi, Simple As. I've still got a few rare items myself to hunt down.

This is why I dont read/watch game guides.

Here are some Ideas to help re-kindle that zam-bambo Spark you had during the honeymoon phase of PZ: Wall of text incoming.

IDEA #1: Go Breen.
I've said this before, but you can live the life of Breen in PZ:

You can steal any car, at any time using your 6 laptops. And you can LIVE in that car! It's all clean!

You can eat tuna from a can, and travel the highways in a sketchy mystery machine with your recently deceased loved ones.

Helicopters can't stop you. You were in Nam, and you know too much. ideally Your characters stats will reflect all of this...Breen seems like the sort who would infiltrate the knoxville military complex in order to discover the truth from the government that betrayed you.

Alternately, you can walk into the local bank and give a morality speech to some zombies, before destroying the building and everyone present.

You can find your friends body and ask why he committed Suicide...And THEN you can ask him AGAIN! (10/10. Would ask again.)

Try the Breen playthrough. you'll have all the medals, win all the awards and you'll have the best sack in all of Knox County.

IDEA #2. Abstain.

Set and setting are an important...thing.
It's a great game, but these massively complex sandboxes require a little something from you as well. And if you're currently burned out, you likely won't find the immersion you want. Been there.

Stay away from P.Z. for two weeks and make sure to get plenty of bed-rest and liquids.

Idea #3:
Force the immersion and spark.

Maybe it's just me, but I usually only begin a new play-through for a game when i have a really good spark of inspiration for a story, a character or a scenario i want to see played out in the game world over the long term. I need immersion... and for THAT, I often pull from the real world.

Example: In my current longest play-through, Jeffrey is a serial killer struggling to carry on living in a world with no one left alive to track and kill. He spends his days cruising along the riverbanks in a white panel van filled with his neighbors stolen panties. I set jeff aside for a few months in 22 while waiting for something new and degenerate for him to do.

After watching some of those "late night murder investigation" youtube videos on interrogations recently, i have some new ideas. Try youtube clips!

3.1
Maybe there's a protagonist from another IP I'd like to become for this play-through.
Have you ever asked yourself what you would do in a world where you're the last man alive? If you haven't, There's a movie for that too. Endless clips for inspiration on youtube.

TLDR: Neil Breen, Jeffrey Dahmer, abstinence, and Some youtube clips should fix you right up. If not, Hopefully it helps someone else. =)

This made me laugh. I am sensing a fellow RLM fan :)

The life of Breen is indeed an option lol. The mistake the OP seems to be making is sticking to a predefined playstyle of doing a,b,c, and then d every run.

My friend not to be rude here but the problem is your linear outlook of what to do in the game, not the lack of things to do. There are thousands if not millions of different ways to experience and play this game. Just to list some :
- Choose not to go to all of those places immediately.
- Try a different playstyle.
- Make bases in every town.
- Turn off zombie spawns and try to clear the map.
- Mod the hell out of the game.
- Disallow yourself from using certain things.
- Try out the multiple scenarios.
- Build a base in the middle of nature.
- Explore the entire map.

Excellent comment and nice sugestions
