Are there other human NPCs in this game?
Or are you the only surviving human being in this sandbox game? It would be extremely interesting if you came across the occasional person or bandit. Thanks in advance for your answers!

Human NPCs are currently unimplemented, but from what I hear they will be added[or rather, re-added] in a future update.

Oh thats a shame. I remember the Desura version having bandits.

NPCs will return, but they were taken out before the "2.9" series of builds were released to be completely reworked. Lets be honest, it was nice having them in the early builds, but they were dumber than your average garden potato ;)

That article is so interesting.

NPC's have been promised for FOREVER, I remember speaking to one of the devs via Twitter a few months ago who promised that they would be making an appearance within 2 builds, though a large part of the development time has been taken up by optimizing the game, the bulk of actual content and features remains on the "to-do" list. NPC's would add a HUGE dynamic to the game and make it less repetitive.

I agree. I love the game, but for now won't play it anymore till the NPCs update. It will be a great game changer I hope

I want them as much as the next guy - but as the old saying goes - "you can have it right, or you can have it right now".

Personally, I'd prefer to wait and get something substantive than something rushed and broken. NPCs that can act with independence and intelligence will be amazing and add so much to the game.

Trigger happy morons that run about in circles, eat all food on sight and get eaten by zombies before you even get to see them add nothing ;)

I completely agree but if it takes years to create something like that than I would rather have moronic NPCs(as place holders) that keep spawning and dieing just so the game doesn't feel so depressive. When I bought the game 1 year ago I played it for 15+ hours before really missing seeing another human being. Since then I've tried a couple of times to get back into it but after 1-2 hours of playing I remember why I stopped in the first place.

I wonder if just having two controllable characters would be a good interim option? Not sure how they'd set it up but perhaps easier than programming the ai

To be honest, I think devs are trying to bite more than what they can handle for NPCs. After reading the article on their homepage, it definitely seems like it. I like their enthusiasm, but implementing everything into the game? I think that's too much. Story might be a good addition, but they already have a solid gameplay without the story.

Also, I'm not a huge fan of multiplayer in this game, since it would be like DayZ where everyone is an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to each other.

+1 for getting those NPC's to the public. After an hour of playing this game it becomes incredibly boring without extra survivors to survive with. Really enjoyed reading that article about the direction the developers want to take the NPC's; however it is a year old and is smelling more like a pipe dream now.... hope I am sadly mistaken!

I agree! I wouldn't bother. Get home from work to get my ass kicked by a 12 year old.

I feel that would be true, since most of the time in PZ you are desperate for supplies, im sure people would just pull out a shotgun and shoot you in the head and basicly get to double most of their supplies by killing you, the only time I havnt been crazy to get supplies is when I have rain collection barrels, farm, a walled in area, and in MP somebody could probably just break down one wall, sneak in, and kill me while im not looking. in all honestly, I want NPC's that will just hear you out instead of just be like "OH MY GOD! THE FIRST HUMAN I HAVE SEEN IN 10 MONTHS! I BETTER SHOOT HIM THE SECOND HE COMES WITHIN 30 FEET OF ME"
instead of multiplayer.

Well its surely too early to discuss any kind of MP features but If i think about it, Rust comes to mind. You build your base, and when you log off your character remains "sleeping" and can be killed and your base destroyed. This is a great way to implement hardcore survival since it forces players to team up so they have more chances of survival but still it can get frustrating some times
