Doesn't the sledgehammer work?

So i decided the gun store looked like a pretty nifty place to settle, but after going to muldraugh and back for a sledgehammer i find out that there's no option to break down walls ( i tried this in on several buildings).. what's up with that? :-/

You tried right click on a wall with the sledgehammer inside your inventory ?

Do you have enough skill to use the sldge effectively? If he does a little half-assed looking swing then you can't use it

yep or rather, i had it equipped, do i need it in my inventory? i thought it'd be logical to have it equipped when trying to break stuff

swinging at the wall like you would a zombie helps, i had the same problem with my axe when i was trying to gather logs. but it should wwork the same

Right click the wall and click the break wall option. You have to be holding the sledgehammer.

There is no skill necessary to break walls, know this for a fact as I started a new game headed for a warehouse found one and broke a wall immediately.

Just make sure to select several portions of a wall, I find the top part to be best. This happens a lot also with barricading, selecting the middle tends to not give me that option.


If that doesnt work the problem may be mods, try removing them and slowly installing them until you find the cause. Had a few of them do this too me, know which they are so I can remove and re-install after a few walls are torn down. Just make sure they are not mods which create items or the game may not load.

so i tried unistalling most of my mods ( most didn't run anyways) and no real change, only mod i've still got installed is the "sleeping overhaul" mod

If you can't use sledgehammers and that mod is still installed, it may be the culprit. Try uninstalling it until you break the walls you need to. The great thing about the mod is that is alters the gameplay not the game items, so no chances of it crashing by not being installed.
