Project Zomboid

A Noob's guide to survive
Normally I would let Spiffo the Community Raccoon give out the tutorials

But instead you got me

So in this thread I will give you some basic tips and short general guide on how to survive for more than a couple hours

Step 1: attributes and professions:

The best negative attributes are social ones, as there aren't any survivors to talk to so they don't negatively affect your gameplay

You want to have the Night owl perk from, Security Guard

You want to have Light eater and Resilient for those hard times (lucky doesn't seem to change anything).

Step 2: Finding a safe house:

Believe it or not, the first house you spawn in, probably isn't the best one to setup in. You need to find where you are, i.e. Rural, city, forest, etc. before you decide which house is the best to "colonize". The best houses are ones with a second floor, a kitchen, bedrooms, 2 exits. Look around the house for items of importance, such as: Food, medical equipment, sheets, weapons. Sinks help too since you can drink water from these as well. Now you have to fortify this safehouse so zombies don't break into it and probably kill you.

Step 3: Fortifying The safehouse:

After you found your safehouse, you want to prevent zombies from breaking in.

If you have any sheets use them on windows for curtains, provided they didn't have them to start with. It's best not to block any entrances off with wooden boards, as in the event you need to make a quick escape, the last thing you want to do is block off a potential escape route.

3.5: Living in the safe house:

If you got the right place then there should be a second floor, complete with bathroom and bedrooms. These will be your living quarters for quite a while so get used to everything and where it is. Be sparing with any food you have, there should be a refrigerator on the first floor, or if you're really lucky on the second floor. Store some food somewhere in the event you're starving, and keep it close by just in case. You will eventually need to go out on a foraging trip, to find enough food to feed yourself.

Step 4 Basic combat

If you see a Zomboid, you're first reaction is to try and kill it right? That works with one or 2 zombies but there are hordes in Project Zomboid, and they can easily consist of 20-50 zombies, and even with a gun you can't fight them all. Not that I would suggest to use a gun any way, as they attract zombies and there isn't anything you can do to quiet it down so it's best to use a melee weapon. if you encounter more than one zombie in the safehouse, run and take them out one by one DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES GET CORNERED. Actual combat consists of holding CTRL and clicking until the Zomboid is dead, try to avoid letting the Zomboid scratch you, as then you can become infected. Different types of weapons (Blunt, sharp, bullet, fire, explosive) are better against Zomboids, in my experience sharp weapons are the best melee weapons, while bullet an explosive are the best ranged weapons, while fire can be used for traps, blunt weapons can stun zombies.

Step 5 Horde migration:

Yes these hordes move, frequently at that, these horses should be avoided at ALL COSTS as there is no good way to take out a zombie horde. Listen for gunfire and helicopter noises and how close they are to you, they tell where hordes migrate. In the event a horde is around your safehouse stay on the second floor, lock yourself in a room, and stay calm they should leave after a short while.

And thats all you need to know to survive Project Zomboid!
For like 3 minutes....

Nice effort, but this is pretty much the same thing that the "Guides" section of Steam for the game already has. There are some VERY detailed and helpful guides there.

Make an actual Steam Guide. No one but the very minority check the forums.

Why post this in discussions instead of guides?
