I'm going to say Rosewood purely because I've never spawned at Riverside and often never go there.

Since I mostly spawn at either Rosewood with the intention to cross the map to somewhere for a 'permanent base' or I spawn at Westpoint coz "hehe haha, zombies go brrr"
I just forget Riverside exists and never go or spawn there.

Wich is better for what? Rosewood is great, tidy, small lil town, it has nice looking buildings to use as base, that makes you like it even more. Riverside is bigger, the 1st floor in the school is a good place for a safehouse or main base. Although, for what I've said before, I've played little time in Riverside and mostly to loot, kill zeds or just passing by... Rosewood invites you to stay there :-D Riverside's like "Come here and loot me, take a walk, watch the river and go away".

Edit: Rosewood FTW!

Hmm...I'll answer based on zombie population density.

Rosewood has a LOT more zombies in it, mostly I think courtesy of the nearby prison. On the higher population difficulties you can end up fighting thousands of zeds in and around Rosewood.

Riverside, by contrast, has the least amount of zombies of any decently sized town on the map. It's a great place to spawn in for newer players or those looking for something a little less intense, or alternatively, a destination for a character who's out on the road, looking for somewhere to base up.

Rosewood best starter town hands down. It's got everything!

Rosewood is easier to completely seal up and set as a massive safe-zone. So Rosewood is better to me. Of course, fishing is a massive pain there because there's no nearby water source. And getting a sledgehammer within the town's boundaries is nigh impossible.

rosewood is easily the best spawn except you want to go fast to louiseville then its west point

I took the advice of starting in Rosewood for my first few hours in the game. But after trying Riverside it has become my favourite spawn between the two.

Muldraugh!
I was part of the Rosewood gang but after trying out all of the spawns for awhile I've come to realize that Riverside is a far more solid option than Rosewood. As one person stated it has a greater loot table and has a hardware store specifically that Rosewood lacks; there are far more car spawns and you have far more residential areas with a higher chance of survivor homes - even better with the luxury houses to the south; they can have some insane loot while having a high chance to spawn better cars like sports cars.

I do like to spawn in Rosewood at times for all sorts of reasons like starting from the left side of the map making my way to the right. But other than those specific reasons Riverside has more.

I'd rank it like this honestly: Riverside>Muldraugh>West Point>Rosewood. I have West Point above Rosewood for the simple fact it has some amazing loot and once you know your way around the game it's a better choice. I have Mul above West Point because the town is spread out, easier to navigate around zombies, has decent loot and McCoys, less zeds. Riverside at the top for obvious reasons, it's the perfect beginner location.

Overall compared to the rest of the towns Rosewood doesn't have much to offer once you get better at the game and such.

While Riverside is nice for the water access I never had issues so far in Rosewood with that. I like Rosewood easy layout 2 gas stations easily accessible a large supermarket for food and with prison and police station plenty of guns and ammo to start off also the Fire station makes a nice base if you want a large garage to work on cars and for farming the backyard is huge easy to wall off front also for defense.

<And if you can't be with the one you love... > When you live in Riverside, Riverside is better than Rosewood. But if you live in Rosewood, Rosewood is better than Riverside. <... honey, love the zomb you're with>

Don’t forget about the lake that you can fish in. Oh… and if you want a challenge mid-late game then there is the prison and the military base a bit farther out.

Rosewood has better loot but more of our dead friends. Spawning in Riverside for me almost always means starting out in the trailer park and the route towards town and a base can sometimes be a fun challenge.

Riverside just has something nice and special about it

Really? Riverside felt like the better loot location IME.

Three concentrated book locations instead of two (Riverside has Post Office + school + bookstore while Rosewood only has the last two), and three concentrated sources of industrial loot (Factory, Hardware Store and Storage Units) while Rosewood only has garages as a source of industrial loot.

Also Riverside has homes with fireplaces, while Rosewood does not.
