Fireplaces inside.
Soo, i started my fire inside a warehouse, as i've usually done, and a good 4 or 5 squares from anything else in the room, how does the concrete catch fire? one would think you have a better chance of starting a bush fire from lighting the fire outside than you would burning down a ware house thats brick and concrete. and aside from heating and cooking, how you suppose we light the inside of our bases, once poweres out, with out burning them down? seeing as at the moment you cant place candles OR build the much more sensible Torch. I flat out refuse to use the idea of a flashlight strapped to a post, that just doesnt make sense as the first and only source of craftable light that doesnt burn your house down :)

So, my question then, can one safely have a lit fire inside a building, of any sort (thinking concrete wouldve been the best anyway)? does it matter how much fuel you put on it? as in a log will burn hotter and longer thus increasing the chance of spreading flames, where as a plank would burn hot enough to cook food, long enough to sustain light and warmth but not burn a hole in the ground.

You would choke to death from the fumes coming from an indoor fire.

Indoor lighting? Maybe they should implement solar cells, from those lawn lights we have 4 for $15 at the store? Just run a wire from the solar cell, to a battery source, then hook it up to the inside power grid.

Or engineer illuminating plants, like the solar fish.

What if you have the windows open?

Currently, the answer seems to be no. I used to have indoor campfires also, but as of one of the recent twenty-something updates I found they were no longer safe. I've tried a number of things with no success - this includes:
- putting down sand/gravel/dirt on the campfire tile and all adjacent tiles
- building wood flooring on campfire tile and all adjacent tiles
- having nearby doors & windows open
- demolishing the roof/ceiling over campfire tile and all adjacent tiles

In all cases, after a short time the surrounding ground catches fire. Rooftops and player-built wood flooring tiles with no roof over it are still safe.

BTW, this all remains the same in the new build 30.

This could be, as the floor doesn't catch fire right away, but I haven't tested this long term to be sure. FYI, you can extinguish a campfire manually by right-clicking it. Still would seem pretty risky.

Is this true for say lighting a fire on the roof of the warehouse? being under open sky?

In any case, i purpose a safer and more complex fire kit to build. one that is safe to use in doors but is not portable, once built its there. either that or the abillity to 'carry' (the same way you carry zombie corpses) the webber styled BBQs and use them as firepits.

in saying that, can you light a fire in the BBQs using the same fuel as fireplaces? as in can you add wood to the bbq and light with news paper and lighter? or do they only work with gas tanks?

Some one who has four wooden boards nailed across it and who doesn't want to die from smoke inhalation :)

Why not just allow us to find and bring back empty metal barrels to have a controlled fire in.

As mentioned, rooftops are still fine.

There's two types of BBQ grills. The gas grills require a propane tank - each starts with a full one, and you can change them out if emptied. If they have propane, turn them on & off by right-clicking.

The red charcoal grills do not appear to be usable in any way for quite some time. IMO they should just have them work exactly like campfires. EDIT: same goes for the wood-burning stoves you find in a few homes. EDIT again: the black wood-burning stoves currently work like regular electric ovens.

Excellent idea, though i only suggested the webber BBQ thing because they already exsist.
