I think the mindset and the...and the attitude, and the...and the comradery that we have here in this town, just pretty much needs to...kinda stay the way it does...I think thats the best thing for us.
No I dont read that and say...from Kentucky...but I do hear a southern accent.
Where as with...
I think the mindset and the...and the attitude...and the comradery that we have in this town just needs to stay the way it is...and I think thats the best thing for us.
Maybe its just me, but I can tell a difference...and it really doesnt have anything to do with mispelling anything or trying to force an accent.
Its just ways of wording things...Who is Mark? Thats Cody's son...vs Whos Mark? Thats Cody's boy.
Its not something we as players can expect...but if (You) the Devs managed to get a small group of players from Kentucky to help Authenticate the dialog, that would be amazing...
I mean granted...it'd be... *laugh*, wow thats amazing...I cant believe the depth and detail.
But thats what you guys do so...
*shrug*
If I heard someone say "Man, he's kicked on..."
I'm sorry I cant say that without hearing a southern accent...maybe its just because I'm used to hearing it...
There we go...there we go! Yeaah!!! Woo....Shine it up now....yeah, Man he's Kicked on!
Really? that doesnt ring southern accent to you?

To people who notice and appreciate small things, like me. It certainly won't matter to people who don't have a clue of what Kenctuckians really sound/talk like. Having lived in Michigan and Kentucky (among others), I can tell you there is a distinct difference.
It just comes down to getting thrings right (and TIS does a pretty good job of that). If I play a game set in Kentucky, I don't expect to see zebras, snow in September, or hear everyone speaking like national news anchormen. One of the things Kentucky is famous for is the regional dialect.
Oh the wonders of reading!
I guess I'm not creative enough to read, translate and change sentence structure on the fly...
Just a detail of Authenticity...and one you probably dont want to mess with half way through writing the dialog...so I figured I'd ask if they had given it any thought yet.
Well said.
Ask someone from KY you get this ^
They have pride..."One of the things Kentucky is famous for is the regional dialect."
This is why I shake my head sadly when someone who hasnt the slightest clue just HAS to play the OMG thats a stereotype!
I hate that people have become brainwashed into thinking differences = wrong...
They dont, they are what make us unique and special....the problem only comes when you start trying to say a difference is inferior when it simply isnt.
And this is the point...I hear...Kentucky Accent...and I hear...the accent from someone from Kentucky...
Its sad some people hear Kentucky Accent and think the meaning is...Ignorant Redneck Hick accent.
It isnt...
You see I dont assume because a person has a southern accent they are unintelligent...THAT is the stereotype.
"...which aside from certain turns of phrase, probably won't differ all that much from typical American speech when written down."
I know you seem to be locked in on "phases" "expressions" or "words"
Its much more than that however...thats why its called a dialect.
Dialect - a particular form of a language that is peculiar to a specific region or social group.
If it wasnt peculiar...you couldnt pick it out in written text...
Sorry I'm having difficulty in explaining my point.
Its like if you had a game set in the 1700s...you'd have to adjust the dialog...a lot.
Hey man, whats up? = Facepalm
Good day sir, how do you do this fine morning? = Better
Ohio - Hey, how is everyone today?
KY - How y'all doing today?
Ohio - We're ok...for now. We could use your help...we're about ready to make a supply run to the Medical Center. If you are willing to help us...we can offer you food and shelter for the night.
KY - I figure we're alright, for now. Say...we could use your help...we're fixin to head down to the hospital and grab whatever looks handy. Tell you what, give us a hand and we'll make sure you got a full belly and a spot to lay your head tonight.
You have a valid point- that some colloquialisms could add some flavor to the dialogue. You're doing a very, very bad job of explaining it, though.
