Smoker trait causes random coughing
I disabled all my mods and my character would still cough randomly after spawning.

My is happening every minute and eight seconds. To replicate might I suggest turning on cold or infection in debug for a minute or two and disable I think it might be caused by illnesses and normal smoker's cough conflicting in the script
Characters have a cough even when they are not sick
The feature Thin Skin is gone

Can confirm I've just had the same, coughing every couple of mins, drawing all Z's near. Made my new save impossible as i was overrun in moments and kept drawing more as i was fighting due to the coughing. Stopped all mods and tried another new save only for it to happen again. Considering Smoker was already nerfed and cig spawning had been reduced this feels excessive and makes it a deadly trait to take now.
Do smoker trait gives you lung damage?

Because I don't cough every f'ing minute.

I can only speak for myself, a 13-year-smoker, I get a lil cough IRL about every hour or so. So I like the change.

However: The game takes place in the 90s and cigarettes are waaaaay to rare. Like every 3rd zombie should carry cigarettes, if we're being realistic here. Gas stations should have more than 0-1 packs of cigs. The only reliable way to find cigs is glove boxes.

Smoker + trait for 4 points Heavy Smoker with same thing but extra cough please
in real

Smoker should not get cough,
Heavy smoker get cough
but who cough is the non smoker, every time they smoke

Cough should tie to Cigar right
everyone cough on a cigar
cigarette not so much.
But not only should cough chance break away from cigratette entirely
it should apply to spicy food aswell :) and strong unmixed alcohol
an accidental cough every 4-5 cigs would be fine. a "normal" smoker does not constantly cough. adding a new "heavy smoker" trait on the other hand would make this ok.

-sincerely, a smoker.
But you can cough when smoking if the tobacco is in bad condition... very old or dried out.

I don´t think you may have the best flavor with some old zigs wich exposed over weeks.

..good point
Just made several new chars. They all started coughing right after spawning, without having smoked anything

Not really. When you smoke cigars you're not supposed to inhale, just hold the smoke in your mouth which doesn't produce any cough. If you do inhale you would probably cough, but that's not how you smoke a cigar.

This is not a bug. Cough will occur occasionally for players with Smoker trait 1 time in 2-5 hours. Should it be more rare if it's annoying?

A few thoughts:

-The random cough that could occur after smoking that existed before this update has almost gotten me killed multiple times. I've always felt that was enough of a penalty for a 2 point trait.

-If the development team is set on adding a random cough, then smoker should be a 4 or even 6 point drawback. Taking this trait makes living near any population center impossible, and it even makes visiting and looting areas with large numbers of zombies extremely difficult even if you bring tissues. With how the the perk works as of this new patch, I would consider taking Restless Sleeper long before I would consider taking Smoker.

I've been testing it for some time now, and I have some input.

First of all, the coughing happens way too often. I play on 2 hour days and it happens in 1,5 to 3 minute intervals.

Sneaking should lower the volume of the cough automatically, like having a tissue equipped. Right now it's impossible to be somewhat sneaky with a two handed weapon since I have to use my offhand for a tissue to silence the coughing. My character should be able to realise that coughing loudly will attract zombies and therefore try to cough as silently as possible under those circumstances.

Since the coughing is so loud, I have to run outside constantly to kill the zombies that's banging on my windows and doors.

As it stands now this trait isn't worth it. Like at all. As the poster above, I would also consider Restless Sleeper over Smoker now. It's just not worth the points. As someone else posted, separating Smoker into two different traits could be a good idea. Smoker would be left as it was prior to this update, and Heavy Smoker would give more points but produce coughs at random intervals.
