Masonry level 0-1
The only way of leveling masonry from level 0 to 1 is to crush limestone and break big stones into small stones?

Yes

I though that knapping was bad, until I realised that masonry is way worse

OH GOD WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY THINKING?
The better way to is to get a stone chisel and stones and make stone blocks from stone. You get masonry xp for each one you make and its faster than building stone shelves or breaking big stone blocks all day.

You can also carve the stones into stone blocks immediately too if I recall. So collecting large stones to break is pretty nice.

You can not make stone blocks until level 1, the only way is to break stones on level 0, I imagine that stone blocks will be much better but you have to reach level 1 first, each limestone and big stone only give 1.25 exp and 2.5 exp each and they are not very common actually

Either way, leveling masonry isn't so bad as you can build firepits with the stone blocks.

looking for 30 large stones to level up from 0 to 1 is a pain, from 1 to x is a free ride since you have 300 stones that can be made into stone blocks for 5 exp each

what I found really disappointing is that I have many stored broken metal weapons thinking that I could melt them to make new weapons but apparently no, you can only melt not broken weapons which again makes 0 sense.

Yeah, your right. I guess they changed it for some reason because you could do it before from lvl 0 masonry like a week ago.
Edit: I just realized it got changed because they added the mason trait.

Take a surface with you, walk down some suburban road, collect large stones from the sides of the road, break them, drop resulting stones. Pretty sure you could reach lvl1 in one or two days. No need to haul large stones to your base one by one just to level up.

You could do 5 more trips later to deliver all the stones to your base with overload.

yes that is what I did, instead of bringing a surface I just get near the cleared houses and use any table of the house there

WOW...that's GOT to be an oversight.
