Project Zomboid

Ok what happened with the last update? Multiple things gone and skeletons running around.
During the last update of build 42 multiple items and constructed items vanished and an animal skeleton was running around. I get it's a "test" build but this is ridiculous. Anyone else lost a bunch of stuff?

The rule of thumb for any update in an unstable branch is to assume that your existing saves won't work normally anymore.
I can't say that I've ran into any item loss so far - each time I come back after the patch everything is right where I left it. I'm assuming you aren't running modded - that opens a whole different host of problems and caveats. Someone had mentioned a few bugs in the forums in relation to animals, including feeding dead animals for example for skill gain. It'd be worth writing a more detailed report on the forums if you'd like to help them get these bug fixed.

That would apply for new features, changes etc. No one should submit BROKEN data. That's what the internal testing is for.

did you start a new unmodded save?

if not, you are not following the normal process of new dev code introduced into a beta.

old things in your old save = not working when trying to run old code that is no longer part of the game.

start a proper new unmodded save, and you will find out nobody actually submitted BROKEN data. (there might be bugs in it, but you won't know if you are running old code trying to process new code. it will fail.

parts of your save are a version behind and will be broken.

and yes, lots of people are upset because they are running outdated mods and old saves on a new build. this is all entirely on the players.
Do you use mods? I haven't encountered any issues with my 42.2 OG save after the last patch.
No I don't. The game is fine as is so I don't have a need to fluff it up or change it with any mods.

I play without mods anyway.

good info.

start a clean new save on current version, reproduce your bugs. then report them them with all the info they ask for on the bug report thread.

with your added information in a properly formed bug report, they can better verify bugs and get to fixing.

check out the bug report page to see some of the confirmed bugs. sometimes with a good bug report they can reply with a confirmation.

they really can't do anything or even test for a bug if you give them old code in a save trying to use new code in the files. it would be inaccurate information and wasted time.

clean new save, no mods is key to knowing if it is a bug in current code.

Make copies of the saves from the previous version, then load them. Each conversion might give you different results.

My character lost the ability to climb up ropes and poles.

It's disappointing that this many bugs made it into this patch, but it seems that TIS is trying to stick to a monthly update cadence. As frustrating as it is, a part of me is willing to put up with that so long as I can see steady, tangible (as tangible as software can be) progress, which I do.

I hope to see the updates keep coming.

My constructed stuff seemed fine, but I literally cannot craft, as clicking/hotkey'ing the craft menu just gives an error. Even trying a new game had the same problem.

EDIT: Disregard. There's a mod doing it. Tried it on a vanilla save.
