I think clothes protection doesn't account for injuries that aren't caused by zombies or players. I guess with branches, triping and such, when you get injured, if there was any clothes covering the injured body part, it gets damaged at the same time. Sorry for your loss :-(
No glove, no love. Sad to see one of those bite it to those hungry as F#*K trees. Those sumbitches are worse than the Evil Dead ones.
I have only ever found Left chainmail gloves, never a right. I have 5 left ones.
Report it to the bugs list. They probably just haven't coded a tag to make Chain Mail 'tear proof'. If its the Modern Chain used for Deli Slicer's, Shark Suits, a small puncture that developed into a tear is the most common issue. But it requires quite a lot of long term use or heavy focused force to get a puncture that destroys a single link started. Those gloves use very small metal links. Often with 2 layers of Fine Links or an inner Glove of another tough fabric material.

Once started tho, the degradation and expansion of a hole will accelerate if not patched somehow. We used Bread Bag Twist Ties. In Game we should be able to patch Chain. I haven't had a tear in one to test if its in game already..

If talking Medieval Chain style, those are larger links, more easily snagged. However thicker stronger. There would still need to be very significant force or a long time of use, to break a link.

Conceptually there is no Left or Right for Chain Gloves unless very carefully crafted to be form fitting for a specific user. By the very nature of the design they are Universal. Just flip it over. They are all big enough to wear over Leather Gloves.

Doesn't help us in game right now but that's the reality of it. As I continue to consider the issue.. Why have Left and Right Chain Gloves at all if all the other Gloves include Left and Right together.

In the game there is a Left and a Right chain mail glove, found in the game files.

But there shouldn't be. All other gloves come as a set in a single item.

If you were the developer than you could make that decision. Since your not, there is a left and right, even if only the left is ever spawned.

Perhaps you did not notice it but all PROTECTION clothing comes in Left and Right.

item Chainmail_Hand_L { DisplayName = Chainmail Glove - Left, DisplayCategory = ProtectiveGear, Type = Clothing, Icon = Chainmail_Glove, BloodLocation = Hand_L, BodyLocation = HandsLeft, ClothingItem = Chainmail_Hand_L, CanHaveHoles = TRUE, WorldStaticModel = Chainmail_Sleeve_L, BiteDefense = 80, ScratchDefense = 100, CombatSpeedModifier = 0.99, DamagedSound = ArmourBreakChainmail, Weight = 0.3, DiscomfortModifier = 0.07, Tags = IgnoreZombieDensity;HasMetal, } item Chainmail_Hand_R { DisplayName = Chainmail Glove - Right, DisplayCategory = ProtectiveGear, Type = Clothing, Icon = Chainmail_Glove, BloodLocation = Hand_R, BodyLocation = HandsRight, ClothingItem = Chainmail_Hand_R, CanHaveHoles = TRUE, WorldStaticModel = Chainmail_Sleeve_R, BiteDefense = 80, ScratchDefense = 100, CombatSpeedModifier = 0.98, DamagedSound = ArmourBreakChainmail, Weight = 0.3, DiscomfortModifier = 0.07, Tags = IgnoreZombieDensity;HasMetal, } item Chainmail_SleeveFull_R { DisplayName = Full Chainmail Sleeve - Right, DisplayCategory = ProtectiveGear, Type = Clothing, Icon = Chainmail_Sleeve, BloodLocation = ForeArm_R;UpperArm_R;Hand_R, BodyLocation = RightArm, ClothingItem = Chainmail_SleeveFull_R, CanHaveHoles = TRUE, WorldStaticModel = Chainmail_Sleeve_R, BiteDefense = 80, ScratchDefense = 100, CombatSpeedModifier = 0.97, DamagedSound = ArmourBreakChainmail, DiscomfortModifier = 0.15, Weight = 1, Tags = IgnoreZombieDensity;HasMetal, } item Chainmail_SleeveFull_L { DisplayName = Full Chainmail Sleeve - Left, DisplayCategory = ProtectiveGear, Type = Clothing, Icon = Chainmail_Sleeve, BloodLocation = ForeArm_L;UpperArm_L;Hand_L, BodyLocation = LeftArm, ClothingItem = Chainmail_SleeveFull_L, CanHaveHoles = TRUE, WorldStaticModel = Chainmail_Sleeve_L, BiteDefense = 80, ScratchDefense = 100, CombatSpeedModifier = 0.95, DamagedSound = ArmourBreakChainmail, DiscomfortModifier = 0.15, Weight = 1, Tags = IgnoreZombieDensity;HasMetal, }
Im not trying to drag this out.. The 'Leather Gloves' and all its variants, come as Left and Right in one unit. They also provide Protection. So I understand what you are getting at but the example is not 100% true.

The 42 update introduced many new items. Because there is a spawn rate issue with Chain Gloves, the easiest Fix would be to make them universal, worn left or right interchangeably. In the same method as attaching items to left/right parts of a Belt, you get a menu to select which side. Or make Chain Gloves like Leather Gloves, where both left/right are included in one unit.

Otherwise yes it is what it is. Unless someone Mods it 3rd party or the Developers make a change themselves, we deal with what is at hand.

Because the butcher usually hold a knife in his right hand and it doesn't need the protection.

Be glad it wasn't a certain tree from a certain horror film doing terrible things to you and destroying your pants.:fear:

Someone mentioned this is as a reference to cooks who use chainmail gloves to avoid cutting their non-dominant (hand not holding the knife) while quickly chopping things. You're finding a ton of left handed gloves because most chefs hold knives in their right hand. I'd bet you've found those gloves in kitchens or cafeteria's mostly.

The biggest difference is, and I know as I own both a deli mail glove for meat cutting, and authentic chainmail, that the deli glove uses open links. It is tough enough against normal cuts from razor edged knives for cutting meat, but I actually could imagine it getting ruined pretty quick if worn out camping as some kind of protection while gathering wood etc.

Actual armor Mail, is riveted in each link, and the pattern is tight enough that even a sharp ice pick would have trouble getting through, it also doesnt need much cleaning or oiling, despite being high carbon steel, because one of the interesting things about mail, is when worn, it naturally cleans itself as the links rub on each other as you move. The Mink Oil I use on my leather, and the natural oil in the wool I wear all help to also keep it clean and shiny.

Honestly real riveted mail would be all you would need to be immune to any attack from a zombie. No human tooth or tattered nail is going to get through it no matter how long they gnaw on it. Plate actually has more gaps and would be less effective as those gaps would be large enough to land solid bites on. But unless a zombie knew to focus on that area, I dont see it being much of a vulnerability compared to fighting a person who knows to aim for the weak spots.

And btw tip, just get some needle nose pliers and some steal jump rings. Much better for repairing the deli mail glove. Granted I own mine, so I take care of it rather than wanting to buy a new one or use cheap wire
