Advice for leveling trapping in Build 42
I was planning on leveling trapping, but I literally cannot find any way to gain experience at level 0. The only traps that I can build with no levels require me to find the corresponding skill book to learn how to build. I haven't seen any pre-built traps around anywhere yet. Any advice on how to get ANY points for trapping in this situation?

You can trap mice and rats using mouse trap for early leveling. If I recall, stick traps don't require skill/recipe book. So there's that too.

If all fails, just look for a hunter basement or garage. You'll get plenty of traps.

so stick traps DO need to be learned, unfortunately.

also, life and living on july 14 is supposed to give the Crate Trap recipe but instead gives Trap Crate, wrong name so that currently broken. (in case you've noticed you learned something watching TV)

and yes, mousetraps are available but need to be found as loot, that's an option and hunter basements/garages can be hard to find--great if you do.

there is a guaranteed location for a snare trap in muldraugh at the south trailer park that's between the L&B warehouse and the Stor-a-Max. Take that snare trap and make sure you research it to learn the craft.

If you want to get into trapping--although, not a really recommended way to get food in my point of view--I would recommend you start doing it early. If you are able to loot the skillbooks for it, all the better, but make sure you catch the broadcast or get the VHS for life and living on July 14 or Exposure Survival Ep6. You need to start early to level up to at least level 2 in trapping where you unlock the stick trap. This is key because the longer you wait, the less bait become "reliably" available. That is until you get competent with farming cabbage/carrots. Having stick traps unlocked will allow you to use cockroaches, crickets, grasshoppers, and worms to bait birds. All of which are very easily foraged baits even at unskilled foraging levels. Worms can be dug from the ground with enough patience. You can use this method to reliably skill up trapping and even get a good stock of small bird meat along the way. As you level up you will unlock the rest of the trap recipes if you haven't found their magazines by then.

Hope this strategy helps.

I hit this trailer park earlier and don't remember seeing one. Do you know more specifically where it was?

Dang...I really appreciate you letting me know. Sadly my playthrough is about an in-game month and it had decayed away into some twine and scrap wood.

I'm sorry to hear that--that's the only surefire place I know, I wonder if there's others but for now you'll have to rely on magazine loot to unlock or find the hunter basements or grind mousetrap experience for now. Hope you saved your cheese and peanut butter.

Got a bit of cheese--no peanut butter or mousetraps so far, sadly.
