Project Zomboid

Project Zomboid

Some what all does Animal Husbandry entail?
I know the obvious: Raise Animals, Breed them, Long-Term Food.
But, I want to say a year or two ago now I saw a blog post, I think for this game, in which they talked about animal genetics. You breed the right animals with the right traits and their offspring would do even better in a certain. (Better Cows might make more Milk, Have more offspring or supply more meat) Better Sheep would make more Wool, possibly higher quality as well. Better Chickens might lay more eggs.

And the second question: Will there be Zombie Animals? Even as a one-off Easter Egg?

It would be kind of cool, assuming they plan to flesh it out that much, to go to a Zoo in a distant update and see Zombie Chimps and Gorillas.

It entails the contradictory philosophy of this diluvian one-man city-building attitude endemic in survival crafters with a loading screen saying, "this is how you died [by raising farm animals for years I guess]"

You're not meant to be

It's the foundation for NPC settlements where they have things such as ranches

Its for sustainability like a lot of the time i play 12 months later and theres no way to get butter and other food things that help with weight loss, so i hope this will really help most of us that ha e that issue

There is a break down on

Cow genetics.
that one you breed for its meat content
the other you breed for its Dairy Content.
So you'd keep the meat cows separate from the dairy cows
and seek the correct bull to keep in the pen.
I hazard a guess, that the more genetics it has the stronger and faster the desired offpsring will be produced.

There are other animals, for the city aswell like Rats and stuff.
So its now all about cows though that would be the rewarding gameplay for the area.
Its all pretty low maintenance stuff, like cows eat grass thats it really.
Maybe there is special food for some animal types.
Maybe dairy is really hard and meat is really easy.

Seems maybe these new combat strains added in, might play with Diet. so the cooking diet probably seeing a buff to general combat and fatigue recovery.

It seem it would really shine in multiplayer rather than single player.
Since multiplayer you log off and your cows play on. And you come back to see how they are getting on. But for single player not entirely sure that it is building up towards anything by being a rancher and satisfying that hunger need. Though theres probably a new starting condition where loot is completely screwed and the new gameplay is more encouraged from early game.

The alternative options to consider will have seen change, Trapping and foraging now entering Hunting and Tracking. So the alt options when no food is about will also be more of a hurdle it seems with ranching being the second easiest. i imagine. Farming probably see some change to length of growth time i'd hope anyways. Or else the cabbage isn't going to do much for fatigue as a chicken sandwich would.

Its possible Chickens are bred for meat, egg or rooster.
It may be possible to breed a particularly loud rooster.
And rooster can wake you up in the mornings.
Or the zombies it attracted might.
So we will see what it is what the potential there in is.

Sheep therof i am guessing much the same
Breed for its meat, lambs young meat.
or you breed it for its wool, Make some winter clothes.
Seems without sheep and without loot, and without shelter,
you will have a hard time without sheeps wool.

And i am guessing for all animals
if the genetics are diluted, close to 50% then the yields are going to be meagre and unsatisfactory. While a full meat cow maybe gets a full freezer or something from a single cow, While a 50% meat cow proabably as low as 2 days worth. but perhaps butchering plays a role there.

is possible that a loud rooster can be dumped outside some place in lousville act as a time bomb

like idk if there was a rooster in westpoint and so many zombies around that catching it was real challenge with admin spawning zombies all over the place

Speaking as someone who lives in a town full of roosters, using them as zombie distractions is a solid idea.

And the smell of manure can also confuse the smell of the zeds...or should:D
(there are times our whole capitol can smell the chicken shet layed out on the fields some 100 or so km away, as the wind blew from there:D)

It definitely needs to be really difficult, the animals need diseases and ways to die through ignorance or neglect things like moldy hay and harsh weather killing your cows/livestock definitely have to be added at some point to keep the realistic hardcore survival feel and challenges that you'd actually face to with them, inbreeding should also be something that causes issues after so many generations.

Doesn't need to be that in depth. Remember this is Project Zomboid, not ranching simulator.

i will say you wont really need the gorillas or chimps to zombify. If they have escaped the zoo they are more than capable of ripping your face off anyways.

If its not decently in depth and difficult to keep them alive like it would be in real life then its much closer to minecraft then project zomboid or a ranching simulator.

Last I heard there was going to be genetics. But, that was a long time ago. Either way it's already a fairly detailed game. The only other Zombie game more indepth off the top of my head is Vein and that's not even being officially sold yet.
