You are lucky you are alive. find a spot to hole up in for a while until you can at least walk without a limp.
Expect weeks until fully healed, depending on the factors that you set in your game.
Slow healer? add time to heal. ETC.
Modded game, who knows what your game does now? unknown variable.
EDIT:
quick forum search for broken leg or bones will net you lots of feedback already given.
You will see it visually getting better when you inspect that wound in your character ui. So I guess it could be "stages", but you wont see stage 1 broken bone. stage 2 broken bone...etc.
If you can stay alive long enough for it to heal, consider it a zomboid lesson learned.
