Mods allow you to customise the game to your liking so find stuff that interests you. Searching using parameters such as "most popular all time" etc isnt a bad idea and also sorting by popularity. You can be pretty sure that any mods with a lot of downloads and 5 stars are going to be good.
Something I used to do was add one or two mods on every new run just to keep things fresh. Im upto a few hundred now so I have pretty much stopped this practice :)
Goo goo gaa gaa give me spoon daddy
As to your question OP, there's two collections I'd recommend:
The Grind Never Ends: B42 Survivor’s Collection

But "Zedds QOL Modpack (B42) (Vanilla++)" might be better because it has multiple versions and the author has provided sandbox preset and mod list which makes the compatibility and stuff a bit better. They both have similar style of mods, so just pick whichever you like.

whooo what a collection 400 mods oO. I gotta try that some day.
Here's my personal collection that I play with (for B41, not for B42): https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3464430209
