B42 Stutters
I don't think any amount of RAM will help you here. I upgraded to 64GB of RAM for Wilds and while I can run that game flawlessly on max settings I cannot drive a quarter of the way through Louisville without performance seizing up and requiring a relaunch of the game. I'm sure it's been said a thousand times but I myself had no idea how prevalent the performance issues on B42 are until now.

If you get this issue and believe a RAM upgrade is needed, no quantity of RAM upgrades will solve the problem through 128 gigs will buy you half a ride across Louisville is RAM demands remain consistent with distance traveled.

Just wondering... how much of that 64GB did you designate to the game in the launch parameters ?

...Good lord, it is a java game isn't it? Okay, I think I found the solution. Give me a moment.

All these years and it had completely slipped my mind this was a java game and can't allocate more ram to itself. Thanks for the reminder.

For anyone having issues, it's java. It behaves like Minecraft. You need to give it more RAM in your steam launch options via -Xmx#G

Didnt help me. I’ve allocated 45GBs of RAM to the game. But framerate goes to hell no matter when I stumble upon thousand+ zombies.

thats because its unstable and you dont realy need to do this (in fact i would suggest you just let it stutter for now) ill share a story

i came from from work to find my cousin standing on a chair, he was holding his iphone straight out from him like he was taking a selfie so i just stopped.... and then he dropped it and it shattered on the floor... turns out it was "bricked up" and he had gotten advice from the internet to hold it 8 feet above the ground and drop it to "unbrick" it - this was funny as hell i aint gonna lie but it crosses the line - the worst thing i ever did was get ppl to brush their teeth with preperation h instead of drinking bleach to pass drug tests - moral of the story? these ppl are not your friends... (dont judge me... drinking bleach is way worse than a numb mouth from butt cream... and way funnier)

That’s a cool story. Thanks for that. Even though I I dont see how it applies here.

No matter what pc you have, this game can drop to single digit frames because it cannot utilize your resources, which I think is a serious problem and not a simple optimization fix.

Actually, in visualvm I found that "optimisation" being a sham for unmodded zomboid - because it still won't go over 3 gb heap. Probably not having enough data to fill more.
Many people miss the fact what the heap is used to store only part of the java process data, and making it bigger won't magically force the process to fill it with more data.

i did it in 41 it didnt help anything and my computer burnt up - unrelated? i think not - less about the computer burning up and more about - it didnt help at all - its kinda like go in to pz folders and delete all the file or push alt - f4 - and who are you again? my friend who knows what is best for my computer? ah i see... i find its far better to not do anything you ppl say and just wait for pz to sort itself out lol

Unfortunate. I did achieve better performance in densely packed zones but it still does suddenly start spiraling. I'm on the fence about it delaying performance cratering as bodies were skeletal and decomposing at the university, easing strain on my drive back out.

I did not test it extensively so maaaybe the heap goes over 3 in "densely packed zones" but will unlikely test it anytime soon. If you want check the java process performance, try visualvm.
