Would probably help if you told us which starting town you had in mind;)

Mccoy estate.
If you start in Rosewood, you have high chance of spawning in the secluded house far east of the town (depending on your occupation of course). There's little to no zombie traffic in that area, making it a perfect starting base. Just make sure to move out as soon as you can. Since there's only dirt road access to that place. It'll get overgrown once the erosion kicks in.

Basically anything with a fence and limited entry points (2, tops) and plenty of storage space.

Anywhere. Places with tall fences are less work to secure.
Places with no fences will give you more xp to fence in.
Places with built in storage and kitchens will be less work to use.
Places in towns will be more risk to secure and more exciting to keep.
Places in the country will be farther from places to loot but let you live in peace.
Places near water will make getting high calorie fish easier.
Places near forests will get you low calorie forage food easier.

I know it would be a resource drain but couldn't you make gravel floor all the way to the road to combat that?

Anyway, my rosewood spawn i take the bus station to the south of town. Muldraugh got some really nice cul de sacs with high wooden fencing and the doctors office. Westpoint I like the three rich houses way out west by the river or the tire shop on the east end of town. Riverside has a nice gated community on the east end of town. Echo creek, OvO farm or meadshire estate. Or the animal research lab if you wanna raise a ton of livestock

Unless it's changed in b42, you still need to build wooden floor first. And since you need level 4 carp to build wooden floor... Well, you know.

A house on the northern outskirts of Rosewood.
Near a gas station, with cows. Few zombies, perfect.
