How to repair machete? Bladed weapons repairing
Am I missing something? Condition seems to go down same as sharpness (at least for machete). I know other bladed weapons can be sharpened with the whetstone but what about machete?

If I'm not wrong and I can't repair machete is there any mod for that? I found one specially for that but it requires whetstone to be used completely. Is there any more realistic mod for that? I keep looking but can't find anything else.

You might need to have a certain Long Blade or Maintenance skill level to sharpen rarer weapons, or have to use the grindstone furniture itself.

It may have something to do with the Build 42. In it, I had trouble sharpening cleavers and brewing tea in mugs - some things like that just fall out of it for some reason.

There is a one-way relationship to condition and sharpness. As condition drops sharpness drops with it. But sharpness can drop without losing condition. However, the less sharp a blade is, the more likely it will lose condition.

The only thing I know to do with a low condition blade is the smelt it into iron and forge a new blade.

However I have very very little experience with smithing, are there any other smiths that can chime in on this?

Max sharpness is limited by condition. I don't think you can fix blades with glue and tape anymore like in 41, it is handle\blade combo now.

You are right and I already read about it. The problem is I cant seem to find other way to sharpen the blade. Im kind of a noob so I haven't even touched smelting yet. I think its silly that we have tools to sharpen blades but can't sharpen machete. I mean its a metal blade, it won't loose "condition" so quickly - sharpness.. sure but still should be able to sharpen it back. I've been using a hammer and mostly only the handle got broken which to me seems realistic since the head is also metal.

Hold up a second, lemme make sure I'm reading this correctly. Are you saying, you can sharpen bladed weapons/tools, like knives, but you are NOT able to sharpen a machete? If so that MUST be an oversight from TIS.

Works fine on a new save with no mods.
The only thing I couldn't sharpen so far was a Katana and broken katana.. even though they have sharpness.

Addition: Sharpness needs to be lower than condition for it to be sharpenable.

Brother in christ. Have you read my post? I know my english is not at best but I feel like people do not read before they comment lol.
Yes, I cannot sharpen my machete because for some reason its condition was same as my sharpness.
Note that I did not realise that before it was close to half so I do not know if its intended. I checked after I hit some zombie - same, no option with whetstone in inv.
I will check again when I play more.

Still can anyone confirm that actually using whetstone does extend machete life noticably compared to not using whetstone?

The issue here was since I remember checking it after longer use the condition was same as sharpness.
I will check again but if you want more info for now read my comment above. For now I stopped using it to not break it but I can still test it and I will let you know.

Edit. I do not have mods for weapons or changing damage. Only mods I have are some qol mods although after that post I did install mod to be able to fix machete with changing handle(only mod I could find that is okay to me)

Nice to see you show your true colors to people who try to help you. Figure your ♥♥♥♥ out on your own.

Ok, there are three values to look at.
Sharpness,
handle condition
and head/blade condition.
The only thing that can be repaired is the handle.
Maintenance will dictate the decay of item qualities in all three. Sharpening blades increases maintenance.
Generally you need a blade condition along with sharpness to be able to sharpen. Sharpness can never exceed condition, only match it. You cannot sharpen cleavers.
Keep your item sharpened and it will last longer. Once sharpness is gone it will eat at blade condition more. It will still eventually loose blade condition still.
Handle condition will dictate when the handle breaks and you then have to put the blade/head onto a new handle. I generally just let that happen for hammers, collect the head off the floor and put a new handle.
Metal blades cannot be repaired. You can smelt them for new metal. You can forge machetes with metalworking 9. Some blades can be re-purposed into scrap versions of weapons.

Most confusion is people not reading the lines correctly and mixing up handle and blade condition with each other.

Also just keep a whetstone in your backpack. Make one if you cannot find one, two stones is what you need. A grindstone is also a simple thing to make.

I will skip some things because Im on my phone and mostly Im aware of those things. One thing is machete Has only 2 things - condition and sharpness. Hammer does have it separated with handle and head.
My problem is that I never did anything except slashing with the machete but both condition and sharpness are on same level, is that possibly a bug, low maintance issue or just me looking into too late? From my memory both were lower or around half

Edit. From what u are saying it seems to me like sharpness should go down first rather than both at same time.

The dev is still adjusting a lot of things includes weapon stats, for now the blade weapons (knives/machetes/swords and so on) are very fragile, it's quite hard to maintain the blade condition, at least I didn't find a good balance so I just left them alone.

You can recycle blades by blacksmithing, but things like machetes are steel objects so you need an advanced furnace to smelt it, with higher level of blacksmithing skill(forget which level but not very low).

Yeah, I'm aware its beta. I just started to move my base, im on 3rd week. Water already cut off so for now I need to focus on sustainbility and fortifying the base, after that I will be looking into smithing. I heard there are swords which I would love to try out :D
I would love to see feature of chopping down heads.
