Tailoring
Is the intended method to improve the Tailoring skill (by doing) filling holes in damaged clothing or are there some recipes i'm not aware of at no skill requirement?

b41: yes
b42: you can shorten socks, skirts, jeans, and now long sleeve shirts and
sleeved croptops. there as also a few lvl 0 craftables along with the original method
You don't need holes on your clothing. Simply adding and removing patches to any article of clothing that can be patched up will level up your tailoring skill.

Patches. lol. That's b41. Get all the skirts from every zombie, there are tons of them, and shorten them. From one full long skirt you get about 4 goes at it. Just one bit of clothing gets 4 goes, that's massive. Also every time you get a rag and at the end with a mini skirt it can be cut for a sheet. That is how you tailor in b42.
Shortening. Got it. I was tearing up cloth/denim/leather stuff and strippin boids for their holey duds and patching them while i cooked for an absolutely measly amount of xp. Figured there had to be a better way. So many belts wasted for ~.5xp a patch.

Thanks all!

As do rags for making shivs along with knives/forks/spoons. Really gets that short blade going.

Is it really more practical to look for zombies with particular clothing to shorten for the mass exp that you need for the later levels? I can't say because I haven't bothered, but I certainly have my doubts.

I think the old method of tearing clothing in B42 still produces a little bit of tailoring experience.

Still had more success with putting pads on Coveralls. Thread is thankfully quite easy to get, either from rags, getting spools from Sewing Stores and making it from sheep wool (can just drive around the map looking for farms with sheep, 1 wool = 1 spool, you get 2-4 wool per sheep). I wish Knitting actually gave decent XP though, you get like 10 exp by knitting anything and it uses up way too much Yarn for the XP it gives. Knitting a sweater or a scarf should give like 120 xp, not 10 xp. In metalworking I can get 180 XP per craft, in Carpentry I can get 60 xp for a 1 plank 1 nail item (pottery mold for example), tailoring crafts should give way more xp than they do now.

It's too bad the huge amount of tailoring items they've added all give mediocre exp (and\or are tedious to collect the material to craft) but I wouldn't hold my breath there'll be any beneficial changes to exp

Garbage bags / tarps + duct tape can now make crappy clothes to help grind xp
