Project Zomboid

Project Zomboid

I'm having a hard time changing weapons STONE KNIVES build 42
i cant find any weapon including the hunting knife i just crafted better then the long stone knife , i simply don't want to sharpen my **** its not a fun mechanic to kill 10-15 zombies then wait for your knife to be sharpened

i'm playing on insane pop so i cant really use any other weapons , the stamina use is not good.

guns are really bad atm. muscle strain and the shotgun Nerf but also zombie behaviour really changed gun fighting so i don't even use them.

so all i'm doing is i hit a bit with my machete to gain a bit of exp then switch back to short blade.

tell me what you think

Stopped playing about early january. Because of how the changes and many of them having negative synergy just made the game unfun and tedious.
Playing sunless sea:P
Reinforced baseball bats goated now imo.

So, you kinda did to yourself. You can't really expect game to be balanced around very extreme settings.

Not really he would experience the same thing on normal apoc preset.

I don't experience that trouble with weapon of any kind on normal apoc, and certainly not see myself bound to the stone knife.

Well replace stone knife, with any other short blade and you will.
You can use as an alternative short blunt. But they eventually break and you run out.
I am guessing he is using stone knives because those are craftable.

Also since we do not know your build and a number of things from the original poster, it is a bit hard to do a proper comparison.:)

But if he experiences those issues on insane population he will have the same on apoc.
(I am also a short blade user, and before i gave playing B42, i gave up on short blades, and switched over small blunt, but even then replacing them became an issue in apoc.)
As your skill increases and you use stronger weapons it will take less hits to kill and therefore less sharpening needed. Most blades are also light enough that you can carry backups easily enough.

I suppose that's the trade off, less energy needed to swing but you sort of bank the time you would spend being exhausted on sharpening instead.

Actually the exhaustion mitigation is more noticeable on heavier weapons the more you advance with them.
It is less likely noticeable with short blade and short blunt.

He's forced to use shortblade, because otherwise does not have enough stamina to manage the insane population. And he's bound to stone knife, because it's the only knife that does it's job without sharpening, which is a killjoy for him.
So, the source of the problem, the one that raises all that issues is - insane population, which is his own choosing, and an extreme setting. To which I point out, that game cannot be balanced around extreme settings.

And obviously, the title of the thread speaks "build 42", so everything said is related to it.

Sharpening anything kinda sucks right now. Not just bladed weapons, axes too. Chop a few trees, axe becomes blunt. There is a least one axe that cannot be sharpened at all.
I've been using short blunt, the can reinforced type are pretty decent, tin cans and branches are pretty abundant.

There's a handful of b42 changes that are just fast-forward simulators, and that's one of them
