Can you destroy an entire house?
I want to build a cow zone on a land next to my base. But there's already a house there. I'm trying to remove that house one piece at a time by using the destroy tool and brush tool in debug, but some artifacts such as wood pillars seem still seem to remain in their position, but in a transparency of about 50%. I can't select these leftover artifacts, so my new house will probably also contain these artifacts.

Is there a way to remove an entire structure?

You can only tear down the tiles. But since the "indoor" status of a premade building is predetermined, you can't change that.

So you're saying that I can visually change the appearance (tiles) of the building and make it go away visually, but the building will actually still be there physically in-world?

So I can't delete an entire structure/house?

No. Unless you know how to work it out using debug mode. Frankly, I've never touched the brush tool, so I don't know if you can alter the indoor/outdoor state of a tile using that. I don't even know how to access brush tool lol.

I'll keep experimenting then. By the way: the brush tool is fantastic! Go into debug, continue/load your game, click debug icon on the left, click Cheats, check checkbox Brush Tool, click Save.

Now you can rightclick anything inworld. Click an object and select Brush Tool Manager. Now you get a little popup where you can 'Choose tile'. Explore everything, you'll be amazed. By rightclicking you can also copy or destroy tiles.

Just try it out. It's great.

Anyone else knowing how to delete an entire house?

The existing house interior space is hardcoded into the map.

That means no rain or weather effects, and the shadows remain.

That's a shame. I wanted to expand the area around my base/house by demolishing the house nextdoor. But that won't work then.

What happens if I want to build an entire new house, for example in a forest area? I would first cut down all trees to open up a large area for my new base and then build a house, some other buildings and animal zones on that lot. Are there any hardcoded items that I have to deal with?

That's some jank on another level, and this is after a decade of development, too. Crazy.

Player-made constructions are fine. Just pay attention to the enclosure to make sure an area is considered indoor.

Are there any guidelines or a wiki page how to do that?

No. Just make sure you build doorframes for your entryway instead of leaving the tile blank. And avoid building poles/pillars on the corners of the wall. The game will auto-generate the pillars.

Thanks for your advice!

Easy way to tell in game if you did it right: make your structure. go inside. If you hear wind like you are outside, you are still "outside". Once you construct everything needed to make it register as indoors, go in and listen for the change in sound. you will know it is indoors when the environment sound changes.

Sometimes you could fix outdoor state inside the house, by splitting the house in half (wall frames are enough) one part would be indoor another - outdoor, repeat till everything is indoor and deconstruct all the new wall-frames. Don't ask me why it works, but it helped me several times

Thanks for your reply. How can you split the house in half? What do you mean exactly?

Just build a wall to divide the room in two, wall of wall-frames is enough it's cheaper and it'll allow you to still move around the house.
