See Not Known Recipes set defaulted to true for Apocalypse? (B42)
Something I have been very confused about when I was able to do mechanics on a car without having the proper magazines for it.

See Not Known Recipes is an option in Character settings in Sandbox that is defaulted to true in Apocalypse (for build 42) and makes it so you do not have to have learnt recipes to craft them.

I feel its really odd to have it enabled like this as I had no idea why I was able to do mechanics until I did extensive searching in the code to just realize it was just a sandbox option, I assume its either a bug for this to be defaulted or they wanted people to be able to fully take advantage of the new crafting without having to find magazines.

Either way its just strange because it makes every magazine useless (except How to Use a Generator, for some reason), and I haven't been able to find ANYONE talking about it

That option only changes crafting-related recipes, to my knowledge.
You can see all crafting recipes currently available, but you can only perform the crafting after you read the required magazine.

As for the mechanics part, I guess it's a bug? Or maybe just like other crafting skills, you automatically learn how to handle specific type of vehicles after reaching a certain level in mechanics.

Or you use debug mode and forgot to turn off the mechanics cheat.

I've made sure with the mechanics, I can load into a new world with no mods, find a screwdriver and take off a windshield in non-debug mode with zero mechanics (and my default for using debug is turning off mechanic cheat and turning on invis + fastmove). It probably is a bug.

I hadn't realized you couldn't craft them even if they showed up but that would make sense, that's how I assume this option is supposed to work but I just have it off because of the mechanics thing.

I actually don't remember whether you can uninstall windshield without reading the magz in b41, so I guess it's also possible that the requirement is changed slightly. Best way to confirm is to try messing around with every single parts. Not just the windshield.

Right. That was an example, I can take apart an entire car, its mega easy to grind mechanics with a single parking lot because you just dont need any magazines
I made a video to show the bug, https://youtu.be/F-MHiWJKKaA
