B42 "Instant death"...?
What's up with this new "instant death" mechanic in B42?

Three times now I've been insta-killed while kiting a group of zombies after one barely touches me? No scratch, no laceration, no bite, I just instantly turn zombie.

For reference, I was wearing a leather coat, denim shirt, hunting vest, elbow pads, helmet, jeans, and hiking boots. In B41, I could have taken quite a few "hits" like that and easily survive with nothing more than maybe a scratch and some holes in my clothes.

What is this? Can I turn it off? It didn't exist in B41 or earlier and it's reaaaaallly annoying.

For reference value, I have about 270 hrs in PZ so I'm not a total noob.

Not muscle strain, no. Not even a drag down.

There's not even an animation for it. One second I'm alive, a zombie tickles me, then I'm immediately a zombie.

They don't even fall down, he turns zombie standing up... It's not something I've seen before, and now it's happened 3 times in a row.

I've had characters last until winter on (slightly modified) apoc settings in B41 and prior.

...Unless it's because I eat/drink basically nothing but pop... so my characters are weak af?

Yeah which is why I like to personally RP an immune survivor and turn the bleeping infection thing off. With the amount of Zeds and the difficulty with everything else having that mechanic on top in a Solo game is not fun, unless you spend 100's of hours playing like its a FT job to get GuD. For those of us who want to play for fun casual... no infection! I'm an immune survivor!

Could be a new bug or even retro.
In 41 were few sudden death cases even without any zeds around.
Guess the char just forgot how to breath...

I don't recall it happening in B41 like it does in B42.

In B41 I've been dragged, insta-bit from behind, burned alive, froze to death, everything... But I've never had a character instantly turn zombie without even falling down on the first hit. That's a new one.

That's not normal by any chance... What are your zombification settings? Sry to ask, but I take, you can exclude ANY other possible reason like e.g. sickness? And what exactly do you mean by a zombie "tickling" you *lol*. Is it an actual attack, is there any animation from your char being attacked?

I'm thinking it's a bug.

Each time I was full health, well fed (at least not hungry), bottle of water in the inventory, etc.

The strangest part is the fact that there's no animation for it. They don't even fall over and "die", they turn standing up and it's immediate.

transmission: blood & saliva
infection mortality: 2-3 days
reanimation time: 0-1 min

Yep, I can 100% disqualify everything like sickness, etc. Char was completely healthy, fed, uninjured, and starting to become desensitised after mauling 500+ zombies with various different wooden implements.

By "tickling", I mean it barely caught me from an angle to my right side. Not behind, but the front. It should have been a scratch, laceration, or bite. edit: especially considering how layered I was

It's been something like that each time. Once I opened a door to a zombie standing right there and the same thing happened, instantly turned into a zombie standing up.

It's baffling, but I'm sure it's a bug.

You've given me an idea to test now!

I'm going to turn off the infection and see if I can trigger the "insta death". Maybe it'll help the devs and I'll feel better about dying 3 times before lasting a month lmao

Yup it used to happen, it wasn't very common but if a Zombie managed to get behind you slightly it would in rare cases instantly kill you and zombify you. No bite, no scratch just dead as soon as it bugged out.

Had it happen to me a few times.

Did you hear any crunch?
There is a known bug in b41 that hasn't been fixed. It could be that.

Do you have sprinters?
Idk if it's intentional, but sprinters can instantly kill you if you are attacked from behind.

That's definitely what this feels like.

I've turned off infections and thrown myself into a few groups now... No more instant zombification. Works for now.
I dont even have 100 hours so im a noob but playing on vanilla settings so no changes what so ever was trying too loot a gun store a single zombie walks up too me and no attack just im a zombie on the spot full hp just tired and fatigued and then turned too zombie and i had no injuries either that could contribute too me being a zombie.
