The way i see it, there's pros and cons;
PRO
- You familiarize yourself with the most up-to-date version of the game, and B42 is a thicc content patch.
- You can select a variety of difficulty settings so it's not necessarily an issue there either
- You get to enjoy the (great) work of whoever did the world building for this build. It is truely fantastic and georgeous.
CON
- B42 is still unstable, and features more jenk than B41, which can and will likely give you some bad experiences with it.
- B42 being unstable, it will be in a state of flux for the next months, featuring probably wipes, balancing and such, making learning a game somewhat more arduous.
If it were me, i would start with B41, because this is the more refined, tuned and stable version at the moment, many guides exist for it, and even though many aspects and systems will change whenever you switch over to B42, i value the aforementioned aspects more than novelty, always.
Combat changes that make figthing large groups harder.
IMO its easier to learn the basics in b41 and then adapt.
Reasons to play b42.
Lots of new skills and different crafting system (that needs improvement tho).
New areas (but u r new so there are plenty of areas to explore either way).
New lighting system. It looks beautiful and changes how u play. Indoor rooms without a light/window will be pitch black. So u need a flashlight.
And much more ^^
I think you can easily play b41 for several hundred hours and wait for stable version before b42. Or play b41 until you can survive 1 month so that u learn the basics.
ALSO: there r a lot more mods for b41 =) Eventually will will find some u want/need xD
I would also remind myself that build 42 is NOT full stable yet. There are missing pieces and broken things, resulting in the popup warning that it is very much UNSTABLE build. And with that in my mind, I can go a head and learn build 42 for its unstable state.
I would also tell myself to keep a close eye on every patch note and developer blog about how it it progressing.
Go B41. Just controls in general are a lot better.
That said if u can manage b42, u will become a better player faster probably.
Or it might make u give up xD
If you just want to check out the build and give feedback go for it, if you dont care if saves get broken go for it.
