Are mods disabled in unstable?
I've seen a lot of mods specifically updated for B42 but when I install them, nothing even shows in the ingame mod list. Am I being silly and forgetting something

Mods need to be updated for 42. If you're not seeing the ones you've used in 41, they haven't been updated yet.
A lot of code has changed under the hood, so chances are they need to figure out additional things aside from just recomping / uploading within the new folder structure.

I get that but I can see some mods are already updated for B42, are they just doing it preemptively or something?

B42 is out (as unstable beta)

If you want to switch to it start by opening your Steam library and finding Project Zomboid. Once you’ve located the game, right-click on it to open a menu of options. From this menu, select the 'Properties' option to open the game’s settings window.

Next, navigate to the 'Betas' tab on the left in the properties window. In the dropdown menu under the Betas tab, you’ll find several options, including the 'Unstable' branch. Selecting this option will grant you access to the Build 42 Beta.

I am on the unstable branch already. But I'm just asking if mods are hard disabled, since none of the B42 mods I installed are showing up in game

No. B42 mods work fine. Have you enabled them from BOTH the main menu AND your save file's mod setting?

Fixed it. Steam was having a fit and not installing the mods due to some permission error, probably because the drive is new or something. Knew it was on my end.
