I am lough hard haha
it's is funny because happened to me too, but just now I released that
Be polite and seriously consider your wording; for example, "Hello TIS, this seems like a bug. I know my character was Level 0 at Butchering and we are currently in B42 Unstable, but my survivor was only able to recover 400 g of meat from a 130 kg animal. This seems unbalanced as heck. Thanks for looking into it!"
I built a butchers hook and carved up a cow all proper like and got 5 steaks and some poor beef cuts out of it. It won't last long, but really one hole cow would feed a single person for almost a year. Unless you eat alot of beef I guess.
Because the act of butchering can make you vomit and sick.
Then flies can get on it and deter the character or the character isn't sure
they can only be sure 400 grams of the stuff is edible.
Now level 0 butchering increasing the chances of food poisoning? That would 100 percent make sense to me. Getting flashbacks to cooking hijinks in Rimworld...
It's game balance for a simplified harvesting mechanic, Simple as.
for 130kg.
just below 50%.
take 71.5kg 20% of that is said to be leg meat. 14-22.75kg of meat.
Now you are in the ball park of fishing possibilities. and approx 50% inventory capacity.
does not seem OP to me using the real math.
you might say from 5-10 you are getting closer to 50% of its weight back.
but below 5 you might get additional penalties as below level 3, a stacked penalty that can result in taking only 1 leg before character wastes the rest or screws it up doesnt want
While this is true, you also can't realistically process a full pig in 20 minutes, like you do in game. Having worked at a slaughterhouse, with 300 employees on the kill floor. Start to finish, from kill to freezer (Before meat cut processing) took about 30 minutes. That's with 300 employees, all doing specific tasks, in a facility full of equipment specifically designed for the process.
There's still another 30-60 minutes worth of work, by another 200+ employees past the freezer, who then further process the corpse into cuts of meat, before being shipped to another facility across the street for packaging.
It's a time / output equation. Even if you can field strip a deer in 5 minutes (which really isn't hard to learn) it'll still take the average person hours to full process the animal, and a Rookie could take multiple days. First time my brother got a deer, took him 18 hours start to finish, and he had some initial experience, not a fully green rookie.
So if we're speaking about realism on meat output, we also need to realistically think about time, and most players probably don't want to spend an hour of real time (1 day default in game setting) just sitting there watching a bar progress while the character butchers, either 100% or multiple clicks of "Butcher left leg" "Butcher Right leg" "Butcher Head" until completion.
