stress from looting
this is a new b42 feature that I am pretty confused about. it's also pretty difficult to deal with as now cigarettes are more difficult to come by. I understand that maybe it would be a little nerve wracking to fiddle around with a dead zombie but you don't get stressed from killing them. you don't get stressed from grappling with them (pushing them). you don't get stressed from moving their corpses, even when you pick up a corpse that's face down from the head, where its face is literally burred into your chest. you don't get stressed from being in a room full of them. but somehow you get stressed from taking off a watch or pulling your stuck knife out of its head.

Now I just lost my first b42 save from eating a raw egg on accident, but I survived 3 months and killed several hundred zombies and the stress from looting doesn't seem to ever go away or get any better. I'm just not so sure about this mechanic in general.

so I guess what I want to know really is, as time goes on does it ever go away? the same way as time goes on your panic reduction rate increases?

this only happens when you have a smoker trait. just tested right now. I think it's just bug because it makes no sense smokers stressing out from looting corpse while non smokers has no issue from it.

they for sure nerfed the cigarette loot. Everyone back in that time period was smoking. And all the stores not having them readily available is messed up too. I had loot on abundant and barely found any.

god I sure hope it's a bug. because you're right it makes no sense if it's not. but somehow I have a feeling it's meant to be this way because I remember in one of the thursdoids it was reported that "smoker is no longer free points" and I hope this is not what they meant lmfao

I'm playing my first non-smoker guy in years and here is what I've seen...

When I first started, my Stress rocketed up At Breaking Point, the first time I encountered zombies (3 of them on my lawn when I went outside.

Days later, a ringing alarm on the floor above me caused stress. (or seemed to anyway. When I heard the alarm, my lil guy got stressed)

A couple times now I've become stressed while fighting, as I run low on endurance.

One time I woke up after only 2 hours sleep with stress and panic.

In conclusion... I think there are things that CAN stress you but they won't every time (or even often... then again I am Brave so results may vary)

Personally I like it. Like, usually my lil dude can keep focused on the task at hand but sometimes their mind wanders into "OMG THIS IS SO F'D!"

You need to look around more carefully, sometimes a pack of cigarettes or a single cigarette is on the table. You can find half a pack in the glove department in a handbag. Hell i even check wallets, garbage bags in trash cans because i found tons of useful stuff in the garbage.
Not to mention i found cigars in post parcels:D

I do not. Not any other phobia either. (indoors/outdoors)
Weak Stomach, Prone to Illness (countered by Outdoorsy),Slow Healer, Thin Skinned
Essentially free points AS LONG AS YOU MAKE NO MISTAKES!

I used to always take Smoker too but now it's twice as bad (Cig availability aside) and only worth half as much.

As a smoker it kinda makes sense to get stressed like that.
Your already on edge, haven't had the proper nicotine intake, now your shuffling through some stiffs jean pockets and that wasn't a cigarette and he wasn't happy to see you, but you just did that and didn't even scratch the itch, but even if you did deep down you know that whatever relief you do find would only be fleeting

I don't have smoker or fear of blood, was looting a large two floor building and my character started gaining stress levels, no idea what caused it, there's just a few dead zombies on the first floor. The stress went down after heading outside and killing some zombies.

IIRC you can get slow stress build up from hearing zombies banging on doors long enough. Maybe that caused it?

As for cig availability. Look in purses, gloveboxes, office desks, liquor stores, etc. They are still around. I have a couple cartons already and I wasn't really looking for them.

your stress already increases naturally from not smoking. and if you get stressed from not finding cigarettes on zombies then why stop there? why not make it to where you get stressed every time you search something. but the really strange thing is, you get stressed even if you take a lighter or cigarettes off the zombie's corpse. so I'm just hoping it's a glitch and not an intended feature.

"cigarettes, need cigarettes. oh god this corpse has no cigarettes, NO CIGARETTES! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" that's how I'm imagining this play out when my character reaches 100(26) stress from looting a digital watch off a corpse.

I have a feeling this is a mechanic to make antidepressants and sleeping pills relevant

I experienced exactly the same. I had a character, no negative traits at all and she got stressed all the time.

She went to sleep and woke up almost every night after 2 hours of sleep stressed and paniking. In the end I had to read books and magazines continuesly to keep the stress low.

I don't know what this mechanic is. I mean... ok. World is collapsing. This might cause stress and panik. Do I really want to deal with this in a game? Hell, No.
