Because it's not true. I have been stabbing zeds with a screwdriver and gaining maintenance xp from it. I even used the carving fork (now that you can) and got xp from that too. It seems like what's going on is that maintenance xp gains are now weighted against the default chance of durability loss. The more likely a weapon is to lose durability, the more its gains are worth. That's why it seems like the crowbar isn't giving xp - it is, just VERY slowly since it's naturally so sturdy.
Wrench and Ratchet are the replacement.
Also Screwdrivers. Not joking.
The crowbar is a pretty loud melee weapon. The tradeoff is durability, granting maintenance xp and not damaging zombie clothing. It also looks really cool. Why force people to use weapons that break more?
Because crowbar now drains your stamina very fast.
A level 3 str and endurance 3 guy, can barely kill 4 enemies with a crowbar before getting exhau.
With a screwdriver i can kill 9-12. Around 6-10 with wench or ratchet.
Why so hurry? The end of this game is a death anyway. Slow down.
LOL. Now I know this nerf is intentional. The whole reason for taking a loud bonk-bonk as an early weapon is the maintenance xp gains and ability to preserve clothing if you need it.
Actually if you played legit in the past, a pipe was a weapon you could obtain from multiple sources. That is why it was so favoured.
The maintenance boost was just a bonus;)
Unless of course someone went for maintenance abuse:P
I for one will be getting a mod to let tools give maintenance exp again if TIS doesn't do it themselves.
