Leveling maintenance 0-1 B42
How am I suppose to level up maintenance from 0-1 without any crafting receipts.

What is the best method in B42?

Short blade seems to give good maintenance xp, along with short blunt. Is the only two weapons i use and with maintenance 1 i managed to get to maintenance 2 in 3 days.
Maybe by maintaining your weapon/tools,...

The heck, but the crowbar *is* a melee weapon...
according to the devs "weapon/tools" granting maintenance exp was TOOOO overpowered for the skill that already takes a ridiculous amount of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ effort to level up.
so now only "weapons" give it, which i assume are things like baseball bats, katanas, machetes,
yea really stupid change, as with a ton of other gameplay changes that werent explicably advertised
Did you read this in a dev log or change list? Or did you email the devs personally and get this as a response?

Because it's not true. I have been stabbing zeds with a screwdriver and gaining maintenance xp from it. I even used the carving fork (now that you can) and got xp from that too. It seems like what's going on is that maintenance xp gains are now weighted against the default chance of durability loss. The more likely a weapon is to lose durability, the more its gains are worth. That's why it seems like the crowbar isn't giving xp - it is, just VERY slowly since it's naturally so sturdy.

There are ppl who start with zero points in maintenance? 💀💀💀
The whole point of taking the extra weight of a crowbar was to have a multipurpose item that you could defend yourself with when you could carry little else due to bad looting or low strength. Maintenance procs when you use something successfully without damaging it, so why not (unless you're gravitating towards axes etc) use the thing that, while it takes longer to kill something, ensures that you're getting less damaged clothing and more maintenance training. It's the perfect weapon for my playstyle. Well, it was anyway.

Wrench and Ratchet are the replacement.
Also Screwdrivers. Not joking.

The crowbar is a pretty loud melee weapon. The tradeoff is durability, granting maintenance xp and not damaging zombie clothing. It also looks really cool. Why force people to use weapons that break more?

Because crowbar now drains your stamina very fast.
A level 3 str and endurance 3 guy, can barely kill 4 enemies with a crowbar before getting exhau.
With a screwdriver i can kill 9-12. Around 6-10 with wench or ratchet.

Like many people said, crafting your own weapon and reparing it seems to be the best way for now if you play legit. If not you can take any sharpness weapon which is double hand like an axe and get close to a tree and push the tree while having the weapon equiped. You will get 0 to 1 in a day.

grab a pipe and spam garage doors. pipe wont break easy and u will get xp
Pipes don't give maintenance XP anymore.

It feels they are treating the game balance like the average player has 1k hours in the game, everything feels like it takes forever. i see myself closing the due to the sudden feeling that the grind to do anything is going to take a whole day of repetitive tasks.

BTW, i played Wurm online, and this is even more grinding regarding level up.

Why so hurry? The end of this game is a death anyway. Slow down.

LOL. Now I know this nerf is intentional. The whole reason for taking a loud bonk-bonk as an early weapon is the maintenance xp gains and ability to preserve clothing if you need it.
Stab zombies with short blade weapons

Actually if you played legit in the past, a pipe was a weapon you could obtain from multiple sources. That is why it was so favoured.
The maintenance boost was just a bonus;)
Unless of course someone went for maintenance abuse:P

I'm sure a lot of the people that were testing the game WERE people with 1k hours or even much more. The point of unstable is to balance the changes out before going live.

I for one will be getting a mod to let tools give maintenance exp again if TIS doesn't do it themselves.
