BE CAREFUL [B42]
Old strategies of killing zombies (hordes) no longer work.
-Campfires are hard to make (3 stones not that hard but, still).
-Molotovs have now a recipe.
-One shotgun shell for one single zombie two if lucky (before with one shotgun shell you at least kill or wound 3 to 4 zombies).
-Cars are no option because they destroy easily.
-Melee, well muscle strains or pain...
-On a car, when placing the car next to a wall by the driver seat, you could open the driver window and shoot zombies, I had a hard time because, the bullets did not hit any zombie!!!, wasted a full mag and not damage...

I see the only (could be wrong) remaining strategy is to use an ambulance or police car to lure zombies outside the area you wanna loot or set them fire by having a pre-placed campfire, a lit one of course... But because of the new zombies AI, be careful because they wander easily after a while they spot you and will set fire to near buildings...

THIS IS NOT A HATE POST, just to make people aware of the new difficulty of the game and for new people...

Please share techniques to kill zombies in this new version so everyone can have a nice time killing zombies. Thanks you :cherrypie:

I just kill them carefully in melee like I always have. Albeit, more carefully now.
My philosophy has always been that if you aren't getting xp for a zed, it isn't worth killing.

Edit: Hordes specifically? They are easier now than in B41. They seem (to me anyway) to have less omniscience and are easier to pull apart and separate into bite-sized bits.

Iv'e always played super sneaky and only have ever used melee weapons. I'm just adapting by error of what I can and cannot do.

Quick note on this for anyone who isn't aware: You can right-click sprites on the ground to pick them up e.g. if you see some stones on the grass, you can grab them instead of having to rely solely on foraging. Have found this for stones, twigs, tree branches and logs so far. Just have to look for the correct stone sprite for a normal stone (looks like three smallish ones grouped together). Combine that with a stone focus for foraging and you'll find them fairly quickly.

thank you

Yep, a fitness 3 str 3 character feels a lot weaker than a character in B41 with 0/0 in each.
A number of traits got rebalanced and some did not. Like Handy is too much for 8 points.

It is muscle strain, heat(if you start in apoc), exhaustion, tiredness and thirst.
Thirst is actually a bigger issue, because if you spawn in a bigger city you might not get water whenever you wish. I looted about 12 houses before i found a water container...And i used the "Pause to check the containers" trick.
The only thing i want to do is test out something currently in Lville, spawned in WP, but i can barely do anything:P
So at my third try i went for 3 houses.....on the way i ran into 25 zombies at a crossroad, none of them was the usual survivor zombie. There is no backpacker among them anymore, one will have a randomly selected carry container. Which can be a satchel and a duffel bag(so far i've seen these) or probably other stuff. But heavily RNG dependant.
3 houses also was redesigned to be a minor hot zone. Else i have no idea how i met 20-30 zombie outside the houses. Even the small fishing cabin had 4.

edit: Also found a chainmail left glove:D And no it is not a joke:D And no mods:)

Cars aren't that bad with how common keys can be now. You can wipe out a small to medium group (and i mean new small to medium, so like 25-75ish) with a random van doing hit-and-runs. If it breaks you can just grab a new van. You just can't wipe out an entire horde by spinning in a circle.

Now PZ becomes WYSIWYG! I didn't know that. Good improvement. Thanks.

I find new patch to be significantly easier than last, in b41 it was all about fighting 1v5+ with kiting back and hitting zds with nimble being op, but now it's more of break up group into 1s and kill them in pure safety, with muscle strain fence abuse feels like a must to kill fast and super easy since they all come slowly 1 by 1. Considering that before knockdown in large groups meant nothing kill speed is actually not that far off from last patch, but significantly safer.
Also the chase mechanic is now super safe as well, before zds would chase you for hours and now you just walk away a bit and they forget about you.

Depends where you play though.
I spawned four times in Echo Creek testing out a few things. Is basicly the easiest place to start the new noobville.

Then went straight for WP, to test something else out. Never got there.:)(Though now i might...if i dont get infected.) Need to readjust myself for the differences. Especially since many of the things i am used to do not apply. Nearly all the safe places i used to use are out. (Also if you are using fast walk, as in right click+2x speed you might not get the return to normal time if zombie appears.)
I also encountered two times when zombies were able to pass through "walls":P (one was a whole car though) And just now by spiffo i opened the door, and the zombie kept walking on the line of the wall. Like it was not there...eventually it was pushed back by one but this seems like a strange bug, that has something to do with collision script.

Also the new best blunt weapon for me seems to be the...Wrench:D
edit: I am never touching long blunt agian. The drain on stamina is just too big.

we aren't suppose to be the bad ass zombie slaying hero of this story.
We're expected to die.

and while plenty of us will become the badass zombie slayer. i feel like this adds a new challenge worth overcoming! :D
